Hi folks, Not 100% sure if this is the right forum but not sure where else to look. Anyway, I'm a CSS/XHTML guy with beginning PHP knowledge. My partner and I have been asked to bid on a large project, which includes re-doing their ecommerce site. Their payment gateway and processing is already set up (the site functions fine) but they need to redesign the look and behavior of the site. I guess my question is, what do I need to know in order to figure out how to do this? Do I need to integrate an ecommerce solution like ocommerce, or is it just a matter of simply recoding the front end using php and html? Their store front end is done in PHP. Any advice on how to attack this is appreciated. Thanks...
You need to find out which ecommerce software they are using (OSC, Zencart ..etc) and produce the layout desired. Then take the PSD from that and transfer it to XHTML/CSS code and integrate it into the cart. If it's zen cart, they have a template system. OSC doesn't have one by default but some are available via addons.
Thanks, shallowlink. The situation is one where the old web team is most likely long gone, is there any way to figure that out without asking?
Well, they should tell you straight up what it is. Maybe they don't know though. You could look at the current site and guess based off of layout, css files, folders etc. But that isn't a sure thing. If you want, I would take a look at the site, just shoot me a PM.
