Hi all. Apologies in advance if this is in the wrong section and/or has been asked and answered before. (I did do a search but the DP search function does not seem to work for me today ) I have had Deluxe hosting (Windows) with Go-Daddy for about 18 months. I have 4 websites hosted on there, (2 are quite new) All are static html sites. I want to set up a blog using WordPress, I have started reading up on it (Because I don't have a clue about it) and from all the reading I have done it seems that WordPress is best suited to a Linux server. I can change from Windows to Linux in GoDaddy easy enough, and from what I understand my current websites will not be affected because they are basic html pages. But! what about SERPs, will they be affected? The site that I am worried most about will stay basic html. I am not planning on turning that into a Blog, but I may add a blog to it later as an extention. My concern is that changing from Windows to Linux may cause Google to drop my sites from the index for a little while. Is that possible? If it is possible, I will wait till my SERPs go down "Naturally" in the next Google dance before I change. Any and all advice appreciated. Cheers James
Don't see why you SERPs should change if you move from Windows to Linux. So I would say, No it's not possible.
I think on the contrary, it may improve the SERPs, given that for Linux Mod rewrite etc are easier, you can customize your SEO better and hence have a higher SERP compared to Windows.
Thanks for the responses, and thanks to the mod who moved my post here. Great, thanks ohNooo.. I don't intend to change link structure or any content, Just the OS.. So that sounds promising so far.. I guess I can go ahead and change over.. unless someone else has any words of wisdom they would like to add! Cheers James
Just keeps getting better sounds like I should have done it a long time ago, I guess I will have to read up on this Mod rewrite stuff now then aye Cheers James
