Directories don't really generate traffic, not even the DMOZ and Google directories. Directories are more for backlinks and PR. Maybe a few visitors a month at best from any directory.

I used to get a lot of traffic from DirOne, but it died out a while back. I still get steady traffic from a few, but not a lot per site.

Usually some more than zero traffic from directories can be made by having featured or sponsored links in attractive places.

(Btw. Google deindexed DirOne, that's it. )

Normally we generate a lot of traffic, but that also depends on in which topic your site will be listed and ofcourse how well your description is written.

I'm trying something a little different with my directory. Standard+ listings have a page like this...

    http://www.categorizedweb.com/detail_26.aspx

I'm hoping this will drive more traffic to the listee, as well as giving some good SEO benefit.

Here are a few web directories that drive traffic to websites, only from my experience: onestop-directory.com, directorylist.org, businessseek.biz, abilogic.com, kingbloom.com, site-sift.com and a bit of self promotion, dirspace.com..

spondishy, like your web directory concept:)

Try to submit your site in Search Engine Friendly directories, it will help you in link popularity of your site and you will also be able to get some traffic from those directories.

here is another directory SEF Directory Delux . com

Say what? I'm gonna have to respectfully disagree... They generate all of the above you mentioned, including traffic... Depends on the directory I guess. I would have to say in terms of traffic/visitors and impressions, KingBloom Directory has moved into my top 5 performers in terms of traffic.

Big directories generate around 8~15 visits/month for me. But some niche directory with targeted visitors works, around 200 visits/month

I hardly ever get visitors from general directories. There's usually one hit from the directory owner when they approve the link and that's it. But I get pagerank and that means search engine traffic!!

Try my directory of directories to find high pagerank sites with non-redirected links.

    Happy submitting

traffic from directories is not much - even dmoz doesn't send much traffic.
it is the link benefits for which people submit to directories

good quality traffic is never cheap, you have to either invest time or money.
there are ample of resources available with web hosting niche. articles, blogs, forums, web directories, web rings . you can submit to them. try maximum to get listed your site to niche (submitting to general is added advantage).
blogs / forums / articals is also can be very useful and "quality traffic" driving factor.

all the best with your new project :)
