Hi I want to know that did google has changed thier algorithin about the search results, means we are put description meta tags in our site because they cam below our title when our site come in the search results but i have seen that the description come below the title is very diffrent please see here http://www.google.ie/search?q=Web+design+Ireland&hl=en&start=100&sa=N i have search "Web design Ireland" in the google.ie and find that the description is totaly differ from the given in the meta tags and page is also diffrent from this keyword we think that that the page should come http://www.niceone.ie/websitedesignireland/strategic-web-design.html but page come that is http://www.niceone.ie/websitedesignireland/e-commerce-solutions.html then i wan to know what is happening in the google's searching, does google slips their repo or their is some mistake in the website optimization please give me your review and let me know about this case.
There really is no definite answer to this question. I see Google using different information for search result descriptions. Very often they will use the meta description tag as it is. Other times they will use the first part of it and then add some words from the actual page. Other times I have seen them use the first sentence from the body and the last sentence or line in the footer. Note that I have seen many people here claim that Google pays no attention to the meta tags - this is not true. As I said above I have often seen Google use my exact wording in the meta description for the results description. Why dont they have a standard way of doing this? I have no idea.
For one of my sites, google used the description from my DMOZ listing - so yeah yours could be from DMOZ or yahoo. Search for the text in the description within quotes to find out.
The description Google uses to present your site in the search results depends on the search terms used to find your page. If the most relevant description, concerning the seach performed, is found in your meta tag, it will use it. Otherwise a snippet, or various, of your page copy where the words used for the search are found, will be shown. And yes, sometimes they use ODP description and in rare cases I have seen them changing the title and using the ODP title as your page title too!
If you site is listed in DMOZ or Yahoo! directory Google could be serving the title listings. In this case you need to add this code to your meta tags: <META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="NOODP"> <META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="NOYDIR">
Thanks nice tip for future issues, I didn't know about that tag and in the case of one of my client's site I am ok with the ODP title for that specific search as I did the ODP submission too and the results on Google show my client ranking #1, 2, 3 and 4 (with two different sites, of course).
If any one os saying that google is not attantion about the meta tags then I want to know that which meta tags is not considerd by the google becasue there are lots of meta tags, as i know about 11 types, and title is also come in the part of meta tags and that is used by the google at the time of search.
