    Just a simple question really,

how many links do you need to go from PR3 to PR4?

1 PR4 would be enough if there were not many links on the page.

It not really the number of links, rather the quality.

My site Starting Over Talk is still at a "2" and it now has over 100 back links from from different PR sites. The links were all added fairly recently so I'm wondering if it will increase in the next update.

Not, that it really worries me much since my traffic has more than trippled over the last 6 weeks. It's also in the top for the 3 major search engines.

Other than the coop the low PR isn't really affecting the site but I still want a higher number...lol

One of my sites just went from 3 to 4. I have 5 PR5 links and one of them is the only outbound link on the page. Numerous lower PR links, too. Using the COMPAR spreadsheet, I should have had a PR5 at this update.

It seems that the links require an aging process before they reach full potency. How it really works is proprietary to Google.

Maximixe internal link structure aswell, for example dont shoot PR towards "contact us", "copyright", "disclaimer" etc pages.

So where do you guys actually get these quality pr4 or pr5 links from, do you pay? I think my site must have over 1000 links including links from the coop, but its only pr3 and am working towards pr5. DMOZ just takes the **** to get listed in.....

Getting BLs from a higher PR site often requires paying, but I've gotten some free PR4 and PR5 BLs.

Here are a few directories to submit to. Start with the free ones. For the pay site, look at the PR of the page where you might get listed. Pay attention to whether or not the listing is alphbetical or by sub mission date. You may end up on page 189. I avoid those with a monthly or yearly fee - permanent links only.

    http://www.socengine.com/seo/guide/seo-list-of-directories.php
    http://www.best-web-directories.com/free-directories.htm
    http://www.definiteweb.com/list-of-directories2.htm

That should keep you off the streets.

DMOZ? Overrated in my opinion. It's content is duplicated all over the web and all of these sites are PR0.

Some SEOers will say "Forget PR, relevence counts." I say use both PR and relevence to your advantage. You want links from sites that have enough BLs to get PR. A link from a highly relevent PR0 site with one BL will do you no good.
