Hello Everyone, I cant figure out why I lost my PR on the green bar but maintained the same ranking in the serps. I have original content and played no games with G? I am grateful that I am still indexed at the same level for my keywords but I miss seeing the little green bar. If someone has any idea why please let me know. The site in question is the one in my sig. Any input would be great. Many Thanks,
The toolbar PR has nothing to do with search engine rankings. I think you just don't have good enough backlinks to have PR. Google only reports a few internal pages as backlinks. The links reported by Yahoo are rather spammy. To have PR you need good backlinks, especially from PR3+ webpages. Perhaps you previously had more backlinks and you somehow lost some of them. If you want PR back, just build more pr backlinks. You definitely aren't banned or penalized which is the important thing.
Well the only thing you can do now is build more backlinks to get your pr back up, no point wasting time figuring out why it's gone because the only way to get it back is to build strong backlinks.
I lost a pagerank, but serp is actually higher. from #3 moved to #2, and it is a different in just a number, alot more free traffic.
More than likely the reason your Toolbar PR went from PR3 to PR0 is that a) you have lost backlinks that were carrying most of your PR or b) Google has devalued many of your backlinks due to anti-spam algorithm changes. For example, more than half of your site's 236 backlinks from external sites showing at Yahoo! are from site-wide links at sp-renders.net. Every one of them that I click on are now returning 404s... so Google has probably dropped them from their link graph and you are no longer getting credit for those links. A lot of your other backlinks are the result of blog comments which are nofollowed and therefore pass you no PR. Since Toolbar PRs updated again at the begining of the month I'd guess that PR0 is about a month old since it's usually already several weeks old when they roll out the update. However, it doesn't reflect your 'real' PR which is constantly updated. But then... who cares about your URL's PR anyway? The reason you are still ranking for your keyword phrases even with a much lower page rank is that PR has VERY little influence on how your URL ranks for a particular keyword phrase. It's only one of 200+ ranking factors considered by Google's ranking algorithm. As you have now seen PR has VERY little affect on how your URL ranks for a particular keyword phrase. The anchor text of the backlinks to your URL, the relevance of the page which links to you, the anchor text for the inbound links to the page which links to your URL, the on-page ranking factors for your page (<title>, <h1>, <h2>, content, etc), etc. all carry MUCH more weight than does your URL's PR. Honestly, the only thing PR is important for anymore at Google is psyching other sites into thinking buying a link from you is worth more money than it really is if you're in the business of selling links. I would rather have a link from a relevant PR0 page with my targeted keyword phrase for the page being linked to as the link text than a PR3 link from a page on another site that is not relevant with just my URL as the link text any day of the week. Continue to get links from relevant sites with link text which contains your targeted keyword phrase and life will be good. PR is overrated.
If your SERP didn't change at all, then there's nothing to worry about that. Google PR fluctuates once in a while. Just continue on building quality links for your site.
Yeah, that can happen. You still have authority for your keywords, that's what counts. When you disappear in the SE, then worry.
My best traffic sites that rank well for competitive keywords are all PR0, Gooogle is just being foolish and they want to keep as much advertising revenue to themselves.
Just goes to show Page Rank has little to do with actual search ranking. If you are still worried about it keep building quality links to your site and you should see your PR return.
I fully agreed with Canonical Another reason may be that you have bought some backlinks which have been reported (by competitors) to google. Then it may happen that your toolbar PR goes down while your SERP ranking remains unchanged. As far as your "unchanged" SERP ranking is concerned, you should have a further look at your traffic trends because you may maintain your ranking for your major keywords while losing rank for a lot of other keywords .
Same thing had happened to my blog. Finally blog got PR2 after 3 months. PR is not at all matter as long as SERP is concerned. We are getting (traffic) what we want out of google then why should bother about PR.
Completely agree with this view, your keywords density still makes you stand in SERP. As far as PR is concerned, you need to re-start making back links again, in order to get PR 3 back on your site. All the best !
as i know SERP is different from PR but ussualy if we have a good PR we would get same in SERP in our targeted keyword. this just my opinion, thanks
Do more work on your keywords. Use them as anchor text to get links from other pages. This time take less links but calculate their performance so that you can figure about more about this terminology.
PR and search engines rankings have noting in common...PR is counted upon the number of good backlinks gained by your websites, specially high PR back links are counted. SERPs are used to gain traffic. Since you may lost back links this may be the reason for you to loose your PR. Make you of more n more quality content with proper density of keywords in it. this was just what i felt, hoping all will be fine soon.
That prove that there is no effect of PR over SERPs, to gain your earlier position of page rank just start link building.
I thought that for YOUR website, PR didn't matter...but if you are getting backlinks to your site, then other people's PR (PR of the page linking to you) is nice (gives you extra "juice") but not necessary.
My best traffic sites that rank well for competitive keywords are all PR0, Gooogle is just being foolish and they want to keep as much advertising revenue to themselves.
