From index.htm to index.php?

I just changed my site from index.htm to index.php.

Some search engines still se my index.htm, I made a 404.shtml file, yet I wonder if there is a way to put a .htm file and have it redirect to the php, but as SEO friendly as possible. Or just tell the seach engine to forget about the .htm and only see the .php?

    Do you mean something like

    DirectoryIndex index.php
    RedirectPermanent /index.htm http://www.site.com/index.php
    Code (markup):

It makes no difference as any crawler and search engine can read .php extensions and .html extentions. Please learn more on the subject before "Lol"ing in threads.

You can use modrewrite so that your urls are still indexed by engines as htm.

More to the point, WHY would you want to do that?

If he has preexisting pages that are ranked and indexed, modrewrite is a good way to switch to php without any downtime in serps.

Here's a DP thread on modrewrite.

It was my impression he had preexisting pages since he stated "I just changed my site from index.htm to index.php."

Btw, are ya hanging out here to jab at me, or did you actually want to share some ideas???

No "jab" or other sort of offense intended.

Ahhh...okay. I thought you still hadn't seen it (or had gotten a different impression from his post).

Sorry you're fuzzy! Fuzzy heads are no fun. :-(

You should use your HTML file and then send your visitors to PHP. Even their is no diffrence while you talk about search engines in php and html. But you shouldn't delete your old page.
You can make your html a welcome page with very less content and enter your site on php
