From a top spot to findability zero - what has happend?

Discussion in 'Google' started by TjB, Jul 4, 2008.

Since a few weeks I noticed in my adsense account that my site is making less income. Because I couldn't find a reason for this I decided to check Google for the findability of my site. And yes, my site was no longer listed on the first page. Because my site was listed for many keywords on spot 1 - 5 I was really surprised to see this happen. The site and the metatags were unchanged, so what has caused this dramatic change?
Of course I have asked for a clarification, but Google and Adsense didn't answer to my questions (only general recommendations).
Therefor I'd like to ask you for help. What could be the reason for this and moreover, what to do to get the site on top again?

As I understand this forum is not for discussions of individual sites, so therefor I do not give the url of my site in public. If you need the url for answering, please send me a pm and I will be more then happy to inform you.

Well, you don't have to be surprised.
Google is not a bag of apples that you buy from a grocery store; it's a very complicated algorithm that change frequently, without any notice. You have to keep working hard to maintain your ranking. Otherwise, other websites will take your place. Do you use google webmaster Tools?

this happened to me also. then i searched a few sentences that i wrote and it turned out that someone duped my entire site. it looked like a blackhat strategy from my competitor.

I also do think that the algo changes in Google could be the result of this. Try giving it a month or so and see if your site is back up there. In the mean time, continue building those links and it will also help you in the long run.

One thing you haven't mention is that, have you made any changes to your site or have you added fresh contents recently? My guess is, if the site is not updated, there's a possibility that google may find your site become less important and thus place the ranking lower.

I have faced smae problem but i will tel you that use stat counter and check one month or two month back list of traffic which you received from search engines .Than visit those posts and update them or go to those post and write something more about it and give backlink to that post and write this is a further update for new version like what ever you post .

I have seen many pro blogger update their last content and tries to remain at same place in rankings . I did this and worked for me too .

I agree with feras. Google makes 5 to 10 minor and major changes to their
    algorithm every week.

Just because your site was in the top few SERPs does not mean that your
sites has a right to be there. Its a daily race to the top.

Well I dont know if its backlisted but it was no 1 in the country search - against 3 for the search term and now its disappeared altogether.

Is there anyway to find out why?

Yes, I'm guessing that possibly a high PR ranked site that was linking you could have dropped your link, thus Google not seeing back links to your site.

I agree with "Lots of Questions" and still wondering why.
So far I am not capable to find out the real reason and that frustrates me a lot. My site has a lot more back links then many other sites (similar sites) and as far as I know (I did a lot of research) none of the important sites dropped the link to my site. Also, the site gains far more traffic then many, many other sites that are now listed on top of the search results ........
I do not update the site a lot, because it is a portal, with live audio streams (radio stations) and if a stream does not change ..... there will be no reason to change the link to that stream ..... But that's the same "problem" my competitors face as well.
And yes, I use Google's webmaster tools, but this tool gives me no answers ....
