Ok, I am a bit miffed.. I have been experimenting, and I made one small change to one of my sites two days ago. Here is the result for my kw:

    keyword site RANK Daily change
    my keyword http://site.omitted.com 41 9958

Any ideas? If this is the case, that is fantasitic. I will have to look through my notes to remember exactly what I did.

This is using the digitalpoint tool? I thought it only ever checks the first 200 results. So then the 9958 would not be accurate. Was your site previously a N/A?

Even so, from 200+ to 41 is a pretty nice improvement.

Nah, it is accurate... Well close.. I checked on Google and my KW for my site ranks, 40, not 41. Close enough.. But this was checking the kw tool from 12/15. It is 12/16 now (here anyways) and Google has it at 40.

I assumed the kw tool started at 9999.

So I am pretty certain it went from 9958 to 40 in 2 days (1 1/2 days actually). I found it around 11,000 a few days ago on Google.

How could you find it at 11,000 in google when they only report the top 1,000?

The tool shows 9999 as anything below your default.

Typo.. 1,000 not 11,000 Was like 987 or something, though I can only see up to 547 doing the same search.

point is, keyword tool only checks results up to your default setting. If your default is 50 and your site goes from 51 (which will show up in the results as not found) to 49, the keyword tool will show a jump of 9998

I thought this way back when as well. The 9xxx number just indicates that the KW was not previously found in the top X number of results. The X is how many you have the kw tracker set to search.
