About two weeks ago my site was ranking on the 24 and so on page in Google for my keywords. a month previous to this, i was ranked similar to how i am now, possibly even better.

today i created another positioning report from last week, and we are now consistently in the top 40 results.

over the past week or so i have been working hard to gain, quality IBLs. do you think that my efforts had an affect on this, or its something within Google?

is it acutally possible to measure SEO efforts by the week?

If you are getting quality backlinks (relevant) with proper anchor text (remember not to overuse the same keywords) then you will definitely move up.
To measure your SEO efforts be patient and the SE rankings will tell you the story.. remember that websites having better PR get crawled more -- so the chance of getting your links updated (IBL) quickly is better. And if you do it the correct way (no balck hat) you can see the results in weeks if not months.

thanks for the advice. i have acquired about 7-10 high quality inbound links over the past week or so, so that may be a result. Basically this is my first attempt at actually making this work, so i guess i am second guessing myself.

I don't think so. It takes time before there is any effect. It could be somthing within google

The age of the site, Backlinks (number, quality, & relevancy),contentof the site, etc. are some of the factors google considers when giving high ranking SERPS.

I would say increasing your backlinks helps. I had a similar experience. The site now has several page one rankings. The only thing I did was contined to get inbound links over a few months. As my links went up I moved up in the SERPs.
