Frequent posts, or longer posts?

    Hi all,

I run a humor blog (Say No to Crack), and currently myself and a collaborator post there 1-3 times per day. I'm pretty new to blogging (site is 3 months old), so your feedback is much appreciated.

    My question is:
Would it be better for traffic building if we posted more shorter posts (e.g. 8X per day), or should we continue with what we are doing now (typically longer and more original)? Feel free to say "your site/content sucks" too ... any feedback is great.

BTW - I'm primarily focused with traffic building now, not on making money.

    Thanks,
    Anita ;)

8x a day may prove to be too much for readers to keep up with. I like to find a new post everytime I visit a blog, but I don't like to find that there have been 5+ since my last visit if it has only been a day or less.

Most importantly I would say quality posts. However, if one long post can easily be further broken down into smaller posts that may be a better approach. Basically, instead of covering a large topic in one post, cover each sub-topic in several. That way you get the whole idea out but you have more frequent posts.

Go with quality and not frequency. I can't stand blogs that are updated multiple times a day. If I want to read 2-3 blogs and also checkout the news on Digg, I won't have time to do any work or have a life in general. So, I only read blogs that provide me with quality content even if it is only once a week.

At the same time people want their information quick. People don't read blogs to read a book. That is why I recomended finding a way to break them up.

If you ping other sites quite a few times per day, they would possibly ban your blog. :)

I also have that idea. More focused niche content will result more traffic from the search engine.

If you posting more than 4 times a day, keep them short (100 to 300 words?). If you post once a day, write a quality article. (good for linkbait!)

I think little and often is preferable to 'War and Peace' once a week! The search engine bots like to find something new every time they visit - if they don't they soon make your site a lower priority which reduces your standing in the SERPs. You should be aiming for at least one post per day.

Anita, ive come across your blog a few times - and thoroughly enjoyed it. Being a humour oriented blog i guess posting daily - say 3-4 posts should do the trick.and if that's early in the morning/late night - great! i dont think people will enjoy lengthy humours - but if yo have a liking to them, sprinkle them once a while -you may find readers to it.
I strongly suggest that you keep your feed length to - Half feed or you are going to lose visitors who may simply enjoy the posts in their email.

    Cheers!

Anita, I started blogging seriously about a month and a half ago. I do not have a fraction of the link popularity you have. How did you get so much traffic?

I have one blog for shorter, more frequent posts (http://barrysbest.blogspot.com) and one for longer, more thoughtful articles(http://thepriceofrice.blogspot.com). Please tell my what you think and how you managed to get so much traffic in only 3 months.

    Thanks!

PS: I'd love to reciprocate links if you're open to that.
