The unemployment rate is high. The income in employment is low. It therefore makes immense sense to try hands in freelancing. I am a freelancer and love doing it.How many people think that doing freelancing is better than doing a job.

Freelancing is very good but it is no replacement for a job. A job will always pay more than your sites or your freelancing unless you own something really big.

Unemployment is high in India too? :( That sucks mate, I think our recession negatively effects many other countries. Hard times for all.

Freelancing is good, even better if you know specialty work like computer languages/design skills/website or forum creation skills.

Unless you can shape the freelancing to a sizable business with office and staffs etc you would find it really difficult to make good amount of money.

    I do agree with you.
Now almost 99% of my colleague are doing freelance job during free time.
They say that freelance is more exciting because they have interest in it and it can generate money.
Most of them do designing for freelance.

I've never been a fan of the major freelancing sites: elance, odesk, etc. I've never landed a job there. But I've landed more writing jobs (and definitely higher paying jobs) getting job advertising my website and from the forums I visit.

But, to answer the original question. I love freelancing, too. My husband is a freelance programmer and I still do writing on the side of my IM business. I really don't think I could EVER go back to a 9-5 after doing this for so long.

I'm a freelance writer too. I enjoy this job rather than my past jobs. I've been writing articles about background checks, nursing agency sites and sales pages. I do lots of research before i do my articles to arrive at a better and quality articles.

Been writing articles for almost a year now and i enjoy every minute of it!

Freelancing is the way to go if you know what you're doing. When your working with an employer, the employer takes care of all the paperwork for you and you have a guaranteed income provided you're good at what you do. But with freelancing, you need to be skilled at not just your own line of work but also with marketing yourself and doing the paperwork.

That said, I prefer to freelance because I get to be my own boss and I have nobody to answer.

My job sucks. But I still do it.
I earn four times a month than my current job doing freelancing.

I find freelancing very challenging but I don't know if I would choose this because there is nothing stable and secure.

Freelance is okay if you have a good team. I don't think you can pick up big money on it if you work yourself without own team. Just my opinion.

Freelancing is great if you can make enough money to survive. However, most people can't make it by freelancing alone.
A steady paycheck is the best way to go for most.

Freelancing is VERY difficult to get started. At first your jobs will be few & far between. Most people suggest that you either do it as a side job or have at least 1 year's worth of capitol.

Besides being excellent at your skill, you also need to be excellent at promoting your goods and/or services. But you could get lucky and find long term contracts and partnerships, too.

I started doing web design about 3 years ago, and am finally beginning to hold my own. I really enjoy the freedom, and would totally hate it if I had to go to work for someone else!!

I'm not sure I agree with this. I think one of the benefits of freelancing is that it gives you more control over how much you make. At a job, you have a salary.

Freelancing is hard. Most of us get a lot of things wrong when we start. But we learn, and adjust. Adjusting means doings certain things differently to how we originally planned. Or indeed doing different things to what we thought we would be doing.

Those that learn and adjust can earn a living, and continually increase their earnings. Some will make stupid amounts of money. Most will do better than a day job. Some will throw in the towel, figure freelancing is not really for them, and go back to the day job.
