A lot of people are saying freelancer.com, but I have to disagree. Those bidding sites are incredibly competitive and you will end up doing more work for less money. I've done freelancing for many years and I got my start on Craigslist (craigslist.org). Many of my clients were return customers (needing updates) and they also provided me with leads/referrals. At some point I came into contact with someone who got clients for me and took a cut, but he paid me way more than what I was making solo. Whatever path you take, and whatever service you use, just remember how powerful word-of-mouth and referrals are. Make sure you do an incredibly good job on your first few clients - go above and beyond - and most times it will pay off with a referral or return business. Good luck!

I am a parisian french developer in php, jquery, cakephp, css and i wonder how could i get clients. I think i should place ads in local newspapers ? What do you think ? I think that would be pointless. I bet an avg local would not even know what php means. those that stick around on the internet/online would know more about the meaning of php/css, etc... 1: Setup a nice website explaining your services. 2: Give facebook/adwords a shot. 3: Advertise on some forums. 4: maybe do some freebie work 5: maybe put articles/content on your website. 6: and promote, promote, and promote....no matter how good you think you are, there are always coders that have had a website years before you, so take that into consideration before you think you will get rich the moment you put up a website, most likely, you will not...it takes lots of time for your clients to get to know you...most important, always over-deliever on whatever services you sell.... You can also keep some CL ads rolling.... the good thing about skill is that there is someone always looking to have some type of work done... Just get paid upfront first...
