Is it possible to make good money if you become a freelance writer?
Any sites that pay for writers?
Whats a good price for work?
Can it be done succesfully, so what I'm asking is if I were to go in, would it be worth my time?

A good place to start would be right here on DP. If you're a decent writer you can get $0.01 to $0.02 per word easily. It shouldn't be that difficult to get established and trusted, as there are 1000s of members on DP looking for content writers. I would suggest offering up maybe 10 or so free (with a review) 500 word articles. When the reviews start coming back people will see that you offer an excellent service....hopefully!

There are many freelance writing gigs, DP is just one of them but I have seen people willing to work for $0.004 or less per word so it's matter you set your own rate and browse the content creation forum on a regular basis to pick the best offers.

The key is really to establish your portfolio and build credibility first.

You have to be able to set yourself apart from the rest of the herd of people who do this, or any other type of freelance work.

If I were just trying to get into freelancing, I would do some pro bono work for some other already established and reputable people.

Another thing worth mentioning is that once you've established yourself in the market and have some credibility of your own, you want to start turning the work that you're doing into recurring income, rather than one time payments.

I wrote an article about this subject here:
    http://technomads.org/technomad-roadmaps/technomad-roadmap-turn-everything-into-passive-income.html

Another example that I didn't mention is that if you really have a reputation for being the bes hired gun in a specific industry, it's probably possible to ask for a PPS (Percent Per Sale) deal.

If Frank Kern offered to write the sales page, emails, and every bit of marketing copy for a project I was working on in exchange for X% of the net sales, you'd better believe I would do it!

Also, avoid ebooks that tell you "where" to find work. There are some good books like Freelance Rockstar and 1 or 2 others that give alot of information on other aspects of the business, but finding work is the easy part, or should be.

The key is to establish your own credibility first, though.

IMHO, if you need money urgently, to survive it is ok to write articles for others. The rate as mentioned by others is 1 to 2 cents and it gets very competitive.
    Now here is the thing-
Let us say typical article is about 400 words, you get $4 per article which takes let us assume 30 min to complete. So your hourly rate is $8
If you spend typical 40 hr week, you would earn maximum about $1300 per mth. Now that is assuming you get jobs/work every hour and you get work everyday. If you are new, you will most likely get crumbs and have to spend lots and lots of time marketing and promoting yr services.
Point here is there is a limitation to how much you can earn using own pair of hands working for others.

If you are not urgently in need of money and want to earn more, better to go for Plan B - i.e. be your own boss.
That means since you are good in writing, starting sites like for eg.
-Blogs. Sell links and blogpost for $5 to $15 each. Also earn Advertising revenue from Adsense and other ad programs.
    -Article directory/ Press release site
Put Adsense and other ads to earn ad revenue. Sell links and advertising space on yr site. Charge for inclusion of articles. :)

If you're serious about making a living as a freelance writer, there is absolutely no reason to start at the $.01-.02 per word rates you'll see people talking about here. There are MANY higher paying markets available to anyone with decent writing skills (and more importantly decent marketing skills).

I post freelance writing job listings daily at www.AllFreelanceWritingJobs.com. Deb Ng and Anne Wayman also regularly post freelance writing jobs at www.FreelanceWritingGigs.com and www.AboutFreelanceWriting.com respectively. Those are places to start.

Don't get caught up in the idea that you have to start off with low-paying gigs. You don't. The truth is that most freelance writers who undercharge for their work will fail within the first few months to the first few years (assuming they're doing this full-time), and it can be extremely difficult to raise your rates later after you've built your reputation as a certain type of writer.

I have a few articles on my freelance writing blog that you should take a look at if you want to get started in the right direction:

Setting Freelance Writing Rates the Right Way
How to Get High Paying Freelance Writing Jobs

Higher paying gigs aren't hard to find. You just have to be willing to take your writing career seriously enough to invest time into networking and building your reputation... the best gigs are rarely advertised, and you'll find that many (if not most) are scored through referrals.

how much do u think is good money for freelance writers?

I used to work for few hours at 2 freelance sites, income varied from $1000/ month to $250/month.

normal rate at freelance sites, $5 per 500 words.

but some people give good money, I once got $25 per 500 words, $850 for one project
