Hey guys and gals! I have been meaning to add a new thread concerning how much money freelance writers/copywriters can earn. After all, reading all the negative posts about earning $.01/word can become disheartening to aspiring writers. Once a month on my blog I detail how much money I earned the previous month via freelance writing. This past month I eclipsed the $7k mark, and to tell you the truth, I feel that a lot of people can do the same. If interested, check out the post at http://www.chrisblogging.com/freelance-writing-income-october-2007/ - and please send me an email if you have any specific questions. I am always available to chat online, on the phone, etc. Hope this shows that freelancers can make real money!
can you please suggest some good freelancing jobs.. like some technology web 2 related jobs.. I ended up writing articles till 31st dec recently and now I am totally free for freelancing..
thanks for the post Chris, I read your blog a couple of times a week. EDIT: Just did the math, it was approximately 290-300$ per project. Nice job.
nofullstop - I suggest directly contacting the companies and publications that you want to write for. It never hurts to ask! RockDiesel - Great to have you as a reader. I never did the math, but I guess you are right!
Congratulations... I'm still struggling to cross the $1k a month mark and I think your blog is pretty informative and I think I can learn a thing or two from there. Thanks for all the info and good luck.
Keyword, Thank you for the encouraging post. I have been trying to get my name out there for sometime. On your blog or here, do you know a list of reputable places? How do you get people to invest in you if you are new? -Jim
Although I am nowhere near your incredible mark of 7k monthly, I do have some pointers for prospective content/copywriters. QUALITY! No matter if your getting paid .02$-.10$ write with true quality, invest alot of time into your initial works. Right now I am receiving almost 40% of my projects from past customers and referrals because I wrote very high quality articles.
Hey Chris...I read your blog regularly. I'm watching my income climb slowly. I'm not anywhere near the $7k/mo mark but a year ago was doing mostly .01/word gigs and have doubled my average income in a year which is promising Great to hear such awesome success in the industry. Thanks for giving us all hope!
Very nice. Hopefully you're not killing yourself to make the money. That's one thing a lot of people do. One day you look around and realize you're working nonstop. Here's to your continued success!
Yeah, congrats. Friend of mine from Odessa, Ukraine (3rd world country) get paid at least $10 for 1000 chars without spaces (not words, go figure). In the end it's up to $18 for 400 words in average. Much better than $4 per 400, right ? And it's just average job. So it really wonders me why people here even from USA/UK/Australia/Canada/West Europe work for so low. It's just not worth it.
Good job. About how many hours did you spend on paid project work during October, if you don't mind divulging?
Thanks for all the kind words! I really just want everybody to see that freelance writing has a lot to offer. Latoya - My typical work day is 7am to noon most of the time. But of course, this changes day by day, week by week!
brotherZ - I simply try to keep the jobs that are high paying, and dispose of the ones that are low paying and time consuming. This allows me to put the time I have to good use. But of course, things were not always this way! Early in my career I was working 10 hour days minimum!
I have been freelance writing part time for a few years now. I am consistently hitting the 1k mark, but would really like to bump that up a few ks. (wouldn't we all, lol) I liked your blog and will continue reading it. Keep up the good work. Also, I just joined this forum, but do you get much of your work from here?
