Anyone here do freelance web design for a living? I am interested in doing something like this in the future and want to know if anyone here is making a decent amount of money from it? Also could you explain how you started and where you find work online?
How you make decent money is the same as any business 1) Be good at business not just have a skill - ie marketing, client management, pricing, client retention, finance etc (most frequent cause of business failure in my opinion is because people have a great marketable skill/ product/ passion etc but actually arent good at running a business) 2) Have a product/ service that meets a potential clients need at an appropriate price point
You do can that and make money if you're good. I get my people from rentacoder.com and guru.com. The problem for you is people from other countries bid very low. If you're good at what you do you will get business from the links you put at the bottom of each page you build. Just don't quit your day job yet.
one more advice? be patient because in the early stages as freelancers it's a bit hard to make money but once you have reputation, it's easy like cheese. trust me. good luck:
Quite informative posting! interestingly never knew about Free Lance sites surely found some to work! Anyways thanks for sharing with us
There are lots of freelance sites and freelance listing sites. I tend to get my work through ad agencies and marketing directors of corporations.
And do not forget to build a portfolio up because as a freelance designer your will be inquired for it.
