Ok so with SEO mode we now can say that if your put 2000 books in your database you will have about 2000 + (2000/25) = 2080 html pages added to your site. Not too shabby.

Currently on the book page we check for a similar item to be on file and link internally if we have it and to amazon, external, if we don't.

In 1.09 we will link them all internal and then when and if the similar is requested, we will fetch it and store it. The database will grow dynamically on it's own. That's gonna be alot of HTML pages on your site.

    Enjoy!

That sounds like a great idea. I noticed that some of my similars were being redirected to Amaz0n. :)

Well you guys have created a monster here. I coded the dynamic FREEBS and it works really well. The DB just grows and grows following those similar links. It's real cool.

So ya know, the more ya learn, the more ya learn. Looking at the DB size now with 2750 books, we have a 6MB DB. 4MB of that is the comments. That's kinda disportionate.

We can however eliminate the comments table. We get the comments anyway fresh from Amazon on every book page view to get the current pricing.

So basically, we could reduce the DB size by about 60% not caching the comments.

Secondly, the dynamic growth. Seems following similar links can get off topic quite a bit. Those topics are added to your topic based book store.

What I'm wondering is this...We can easily keep the app dynamic and follow any simialr link. However, I think we should not add them to the DB. You would have your base subject bookstore with indexes that were always on topic, but still be dynamic enough to follow any similar link and if indexed, you still will show that link again if asked.

Back to the more ya know... While typing this I releaized the dynamic inserts would change the index pages making them seem updated to the SE. I think I know what the vote will be. ;) However, comments caching needs to go.

    Thanks.

I think having the comments in there would make the pages more attractive to the search engines. It's like free articles in everypage (that has comments). I have quite a large database (100 megs) and have two scripts adding to the database and I'm only using a total of 5.6 megs. I have plenty of spare room. :)

The comments are still there on your pages, just not cached.

It is now a never ending book store too. You have the ability to display any book on file at amazon if you cache it or not.

Even if you purge your database after being spidered and have no books on file locally, you will still display any book still on file at amazon properly if the URL saved by the SE to your book store is used.

Don't be so hard on yourself, it was an easy fact to miss in my on going rants of changes.

I think we have us a nice tool here, once a spider is in, there is virtually no end to where the similar links will take them. They could theoretically follow the entire amazon book listing, on "your" site!

I hope that's not too powerful!

Thanks for the feedback. I hope this works out well for all of us. We have a great theory, now we need to see if it works in practice.

A suggestion. I spent about 10 minutes on it this morning but gave up because my day job was beckoning. How about a '5 popular' titles section on the main index page? You could so a select ordering by rating and select a random 5 records from the first hundred. Title the section 'Most Popular $keyword Books'......A thought that may get Google indexing more deeply quicker.
