Ok I got it. Change the upper case 'US' in your config.php for the country code to lower case and let me know.

Indexed pages have falled off by nearly 50,000 pages. Hopefully over the next couple of weeks they'll be back to where they were previously.

For those of you that may upgrade your FREEBS to 1.12 from a previous version, you should note, the country codes are lower case.

There are examples of the country codes in the 1.12 config.php in lower case, but that may be overlooked when doing a modification for an upgrade Vs. a replacement.

    Thanks

The site I have that dropped from 26k to 370 pages a few weeks ago still hasn't recovered, my other sites with the bookshop are staying steady.

The problem is, the site that dropped was bringing nearly all of the sales...murphy's law strikes again :(

I see flakey stuff with indexed pages too. But, 10.5% conversion rate is still cool though.

Nintendo posted this in another thread.
Where to next to get pages

    >>>It's now been made public that Google calls all affiliate only sites, like datafeed and AWS sites, SPAM. Back in 1993 I made $13,000 in two quarters, and now I'm crashed down to about $1,000 a quarter. Since the last Google update I've gone from having over 1,000,000 AWS URLs indexed to now having a measly 16,500 AWS URLs indexed.<<<

There is paid advertising folks. I once heard a cool statement, ya gotta spend money to make money. Free surps are fun to make money off, but if that's all you do, that's not much of a business.

FREEBS is not a replacement for actually having to work. I wish it were more though.

You mean, I gotta actually pay money to make it?

    How does THAT work? :)

sometimes the pages come back sometimes not

sometimes google will remove all the pages of your site not just the bookstore pages, that really sucks

Even that is tougher now that Amazon has reduced it's max commission on electronics. Perhaps Adwords will finally lost less - or adwords will bankrupt the foolish people and we can finally buy text ads at reasonable prices.

    FreeBS still rocks !!!

There's always someone to take their place :( .
I halted my adwords campaigns as the risk/reward just isn't worth it any more.
Just to stay on the first page the cost was edging up every week, people are bidding higher to try and get on the top position which ironically isn't necessary the best spot for conversions anyway.

I watch and after a couple of weeks they drop out but someone always steps up.

Bleh. So Google are single handedly going to destroy affiliate programs? 'thin affiliates' my butt. Amazon have their datafeeds because they want MORE people to find their website.

Google filtering out datafeeds is like your local yellow pages only allowing one Mazda car dealer to advertise in their listings. After all most car dealers use the same advertising copy and brochures as supplied by Mazda. I see this as censorship to account for the fact Google can't come up with a decent algorithm to filter out extreme search engine spammers.......

I was thinking the exact same thing.
It is not only Amazon that is affected by other companies that provide a datafeed or even RSS.

Consider what would happen if you wanted to start an affiliate program and got too big for google... a similar situation happened to TemplateMonster.com and their affiliate program. Google simply deindexed templatemonster.com :(

I hope an open source more relevant search engine takes over in the near future.
