I'm assuming that the way a new book is placed in the DB is by someone invoking a click to one of the recommended books, either a human click or a search bot visiting the link. Am I correct in this assumption?
Just checked the stats (and changed from the classic fee structure to the performance based one) and noticed ~18% conversion ratio with the store. Anyone else seeing similar numbers? Another excellent selling point if I do say so myself.
My converson rate is slowly dropping, down to 24%. It's funny how things like this start with a bang then drift down. The first three books I sold were well over $100.00 each but the value of books sold has dropped...the last 12 have all been under $20. I now have way more books indexed but the clickthrough has also been going down. My pages in the coop haven't changed at all to reflect the number of books indexed, I don't understand how that works. What sort of site PR are you guys putting the bookstores on ?. I have a few sites but the only one doing anything is my PR5 site. This site has 4710 books indexed down from 5017 a week ago but there are now over 17000 books on the site. The other sites with PR4, 3, 2 have the books but Google is slow to index them. I am currently linking each bookstore to each other to see if that speeds up the process.
Higher PR sites normally get spidered more often. I have my bookstores under my PR5 domain and point other PR5 links to the store.
I just created a sitemap based on my access logs via: https://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/ Which included many of the Freebs titles. Hopefully Google spiders/indexes these urls faster. I'll keep you all posted.
Has anyone seen an impact on their Coop weights from the FREEBS bookshop? I can't say I have even though I know that many of the pages are indexed and I'm getting quite a few hits off them. Anyone know how it works with Coop?
I guess that should be a side effect, but I didn't give it any thought or check weight with expectations. The coop will have to speak on that issue as I have no clue as to the calculations and how they are done.
The sole reason why I think many had installed Freebs was because they wanted to increase their indexed page count in Google which in turn should increase Co-op weight. A few hundred pages won't increase weight by a large amount, however a few thousand will.
Thats exactly what I thought it was all about. At present there is no change in the coop page count even with thousands of new pages now indexed by Google....but none of my coop sites have had an increase in coop page count for months although pages have been added normally, even for my forum which has grown google has indexed hundreds more pages but there has been no flow on to the coop. I have no idea how the coop works in respect to that.
Sheesh. That's the reason most people installed FREEBS? I don't think so... Sometimes, one uses things like FREEBS and the Coop Ad Network for the reason they were developed. That seems to be hard for some people to believe but it's true nevertheless. The Coop Ad Network actually works as an ADVERTISING network -- FREEBS actually works (as far as I have been able to see from playing with it so far) as a dynamic topical Amazon book list generator. If these utilities do anything else as side-effects, great. If they don't, so what? The important thing is do they do what they set out to do? It seems to me the answer is yes in both of the examples I've cited.
I wrote it for content and income. I'm very happy with amazon. The rest are side affects. I can no more predict how a search engine will see my pages then the next guy, but they were intened to be seen in the serps. They are on topic for content and sales. Rather then look at this as an edge in the coop, look at it as a tool to hold up your site as if there was no coop.
Dunno about you, but I found it funny that I made that comment and the first response was someone who did it for just that reason. Some may use it for an increased page count (which could also mean additional content), some may use it as a complimentary tool to help visitors find more information about a subject. To be honest, I installed it because I had a lot of old threads from my forum get purged as supplimental results that were about 2.5 years old which heavily decreased my indexed pages. I saw freebs as an easy to install/configure tool that could aid in more content/pages. As it turns out, Yahoo eats this up and is generating income AND is increasing pages in Google. I am hoping that I can get back my co-op weight with the help of freebs. If not, oh well, though I'd imagine that be a close impossibility considering the way the co-op works. I advertise various products via the co-op and am profiting well. I don't find anything really hard to believe in this game. Whether it's from the serps or people clicking on product links/banners. All of it is working.
My focus is obviously way to narrow . The last thing I thought it would be for is an income from selling books yet that's exactly what has happened. I guess I was influenced by a comment from the person who wrote the other bookstore script.......he said it would be a very rare occurrence for a book to be sold. Ok if it's all about adding content for whatever reason heres another way, this site has 1,210,000 pages indexed by Google. Note it's a relatively new site and is a PR0. http://www.indictionary.com/ Noppid will whip up a script for us in 5 minutes
Interesting site. Doing a link search in MSN shows nearly 10,000 back links. Seems to me its in the co-op based on some of the sites.
See, now noppid took that as a compliment. Please refrain from complimenting him because his ego is big enough already. We need him to code things and he gets all distracted with compliments. -Thank you for your support and understanding in this matter. -
Intersting script. Intersting look. I gusee there only a few ways to do a letter index. I don's see any syndication links however. Can you direct me if that's whatcha meant?
Would it balance out if I give Noppid negative rep for creating such an excellent resource that he has selflessly put considerable time and effort into and let us have for absolutely no cost
noppid, this is the first time I have read this thread. I've taken a look at some of the sample bookstores using your script and it looks very nice. How difficult would it be to add thumbnail images to the book lists for each letter category page just like you currently do for the "Similar books" listings on specific book pages? Does the Amazon pull also include a description for the books that can be included on the book detail pages (or summarized on the book lists)? Another suggestion... It would be really cool to have the script generate an RSS feed for the top picks or most popular books that could then be rendered on other non-bookstore pages of the same site (with direct links to the book pages of course).
