Check out the code and beat it up a little. It seems to work well and be extremly fast displaying pages. :)

    Fishing Books

There she is. Replaced the Freebie one as this one seems much cleaner. Would someone good at mod-rewrites mind doing one for this?

I'm feeling like hell and wore out. I'd like to do that too. I need to read and learn how though. But I need a night of rest.

If someone can help with that I'd appreciate any tips.

BTW, that is awsome fast on your site. Nice 1500 count too.

Gave up on the mod-rewrite. Got everytihng working alright. Great script. Using some FFA links to help get the spiders going. Hopefully google sucks this one up better then the Freebie script. Any tips for getting this deep indexed let me know. Also got the coop on there though with no pages index it doesn't make any difference.

    Feature Request
Similar items display the books on your web site with your web site links not links on amazon. This would make for some great anchor text.

    Hi,

This looks great and I'm trying to get it working but the p3.php script seems to stall at:
The little IE flag icon stops waving after a couple of minutes and nothing seems to happen. No records seem be put into the DB either. How long should this process take?

If it don't time out in 30 seconds, it's working, wait about 6 minutes and the database will be populated.

If it times out... see this.. http://us3.php.net/manual/en/function.set-time-limit.php and refer your host to it.

No I've had my hosting company increase my timeout to 15 minutes for an affiliate feed script that I wrote so that should be fine. I'll just be patient and do something else. I hope it works, I've got the templates modded already.....Anyway, it looks (potentially) great, thanks noppid!

15 minutes seems time enough. The pull takes me about 4 to 6 minutes on a 3MB DSL and a pretty empty server. It never breaks about .20.

Holler if ya get more info. Could it be a browser thing? I dunno, I'm fishing here.

OK, I left it a while and (finally) a few items ended up in the DB, but only 14 books were listed(when the limit was set to 2000). Weirdly none of the other echo's in the p3.php script are shown regardless of how long I wait, 'Be patient and just wait.' is the last thing I see. Looking at the script I should see :

    echo "Amazon SOAP query ended.<br>MySql update begin time: " . date( "l dS of F Y h:i:s A" ,time()) . "<br><br>";

    next, but I dont.

Hummmmm. I'll try from another PC and another OS and see what that does.

Thanks, keep us informed. It seems if PHP is in safe mode, you may not get the desired result.

From the php site regarding the php timeout...

    Warning

set_time_limit() has no effect when PHP is running in safe mode. There is no workaround other than turning off safe mode or changing the time limit in the php.ini.

That is what allows us to do the big pull while we wait for the SOAP negotiation with amazon. It's really not needed to run the store.

OK, the amazon pull is causing the problems. I verified this by changing my search terms to something with a lot less results. Hey presto it worked. OK, well I'll try to run the p3.php script from another web server and see if I can do what I want that way. In the mean time I've got several hundred books in the DB now so I'm a happy little camper :D
