Free WP Theme Sites?

Is it worth setting one up?

I'm sort of interested in starting one, but I'm not sure whether I should or not because it looks like there are already loads of sites, and I might struggle against them in what seems a very congested niche.

If I do start one up, where do I get the themes from? Is it acceptable to put any other free WP theme on my site as long as I credit the person who I got it from?

Also, I'm assuming they make their money from putting links in the WP theme's footer back to the site and then putting some ads on the site?

    Thanks in advance.

Is that incase someone takes my link(s) off the bottom? If so, I know this is a possibility, but then again I'm sure the majority of people would leave the link on.

I think it could be worth setting one up, only if you've got backing from theme makers and also if you've got more than 1 person behind it. I'm willing to help anyone in this field.

But yeah, go for it, worth a try, as long as you get the footer link's encrypted so they can't be edited.

Chandan. My plan was to make the site using a wordpress theme, meaning that only I could upload themes. This should stop people uploading nasty themes to my site.

AdzTech, I was thinking I would ask other similar sites if I could use their themes, but still keep their link in the footer. This way their link gets even more coverage, and it also means I can have some content on my site. Then, if the site gets successful, I will hire a designer to make themes for me on a regular basis, that would be exclusive to me.

How do you suggest I monetize the site? I was thinking Adsense to start off with, and also, I was thinking of having membership whereby people accessed a section that had the themes without my link at the bottom, although I'd have to make it clear they couldn't put it on their theme site with their link on the bottom.

Go with Adsense & Text Link Ads. Sell ad-links at the footer of the page, and so on.

Another revenue stream would be to find a site with pay themes and an affiliate program.
Give away the free themes and try to up-sell to the custom pay themes.
