Here is link to free website monitoring service. Great Tool - don't need to worry about downtime or your site and loosing a customer. Its Free! http://alertfront.com Regards
The benefit is being alert via email or SMS when your site is down, then you contact your hosting or support service to bring it back or do whatever is need to avoid loosing traffic for downtime.
My servers have a built in system to check, with a third party as well. I did however use a similiar service to this awhile back and found it very useful, thanks for the links I plan on giving them a shot again
Not that I know off. The only con I can think about is, your server getting extra load due to pinging by the third party. I have selected a 15 minute pinging interval. So, if my site goes down for a couple of minutes (14:59 minutes theoreticaly) b/w that interval, I won't know about it.
Plus a ping really isn't going to cause a 'load' if a ping is bringing you on the edge you're in need of a new server anyways
There are free monitoring services in which you can disable pinging, they simply send a robot to verify your if your site or server is up. www.hyperspin.com provides such service. On trial basis you can ping an monitoring as often as every single minute, but at your risk since that cause server load and trigger security mechanisms, if installed. However, after 30 days, if you want to keep the service free, the monitoring time is only every 30 minutes, or upgrade payment for more frequently.
nyce thanks for the replys i may give it a try! tho my sites have been pretty stable with godaddy! iv never seen em down so far ! knock knock but $hit happens rite!
