    Hi,

    I wondering, what does it change if I go for a free hosting service for my first website ? I'm think about Host-ed:
    * 150 MB Disk Space
    * 4 GB Data Transfer
    * 1 Domain Hosting
    * 1 MySQL Database
    * PHP4/5, Perl, CGI, FrontPage

    So, my plan is to buy a domain at CheapName and register it on my Host-ed account. Do you think it can do a good job for the beginning of my website ?? Will it change something for the SEO ??

    THX

    If you are looking at monetizing your site then definitely get at least shared hosting. I'm with hostmonster and they are excellent - have only have one problem (an error with an add-on domain) and they fixed it in 15 mins from the time I sent my ticket in.

    If you are just doing a personal blog or a site for fun, I'd just go with free hosting and mess around with it. The free hosting in my sig is much better than what you have listed there if you decide to go that route.

    1500 MB Disk Space, 100 GB Data Transfer, unlimited domains, multiple databases, and all the other features you have listed.

    It's the place I started out with - it's always good to have a free account to mess around with ur site and get it set-up. I use it for test-sites.

    Anyway, good luck.

    Yes its good to use free host.
    But there are many cons side if you using free host such as low uptime,limited bandwidth,low quality support.
    And many people will use free host to host link dump and this will affect your SEO.
    Why don't you get paid host coz nowaday its very cheap less than $1/month

    It's too dangerous as always because you have to have good knowledge about hosting u r website on u r server.u r server requires 24hrs running, Also there are millions of webhosting company availabe for your needs for cheap webhosting with above 95% uptime gurantee. So y take risk?

    Yes, i also had the same intention about hosting myself-but, now i changed my plan. because it's too risky. or ask urself can u provide 99.9% uptime gurantee from u r end.

    Not only that there are other factors incurrs in this case to do own hosting.

    So, my advice just change u r plan.i hope u will consider this.

    There should be no negative impact on your SEO when hosting on free host wiht only these two exceptions:
    1. If the host is unreliable and has too much downtimes.
    2. If they host questionable content, e. g. something illegal. In such case google may block the IP address of such sites and because the IP address is shared it may happen you will be blocked too. So have a look at their Terms of Service to learn what content they allow.

    If this is your first site, I would recommend using a free host this would primarily be your learning phase. And I dont think It affects SEO. I personally know few people paying 0.00$ for hosting for their sites and yet earning big from them. You just need to know where to look. 000webhost . com is one free host I would suggest.

    Some sites that offers free domains or free hosting will show ads in your site so you should check it out first before you change your hosting ....

    I'd recommend you to go for a paid hosting. I've been on many free web hosting services. But most of them either got shut down or had a terrible uptime. I'd strongly recommend you to go for a paid cheap shared hosting. Hostmonster, hostgator, etc. are pretty cheap and good.

    IMHO, go with a paid host. You don't have to spend a fortune on web hosting. Just stick to reputable web hosts and you'll be alright.

    An important thing to do when choosing a web host is to research them for reviews, uptime, service and support.

    If you're planning on making any money at all then the $5 to $10 a month it costs for shared hosting is not going to be a problem.

    If you can't make $5 to $10 per month from your efforts then you should think about another career.

    If you're not making any money yet -- and don't plan to -- then think of it as an investment.
