Free viable Photoshop alternatives?

Hello DP members, I was wondering if YOU think any free photo-editing software is as good as (or better than) Photoshop. Personally, I am a Gimp fan (I have heard that they have a Photoshop copy called Gimpshop). Do you use any free alternatives?

Gimp is very typical tool than Photoshop you will need 4-5 months to read GIMP Features and tools however Photoshop is highly user friendly

I am a GIMP user as well. I use it mainly for my web design needs, and find it very powerful.

I'd just recommend either Gimp or Paint.net as Ken said, Paint.net is pretty good. I'd prefer to use Gimp though, as it's free and downloadable. Photoshop is rather expensive, I see where you are coming from.
