Hello - I recently designed a tshirt for my yamaha forum and printed out 200 tshirts. I'm thinking about organising a contest to win a free shirt. I'm trying to make a decision on what could be a good idea for the contest: example best ride of the month, reward best write-up/article, etc I don't mind giving away free tshirts but also they are high quality and cost me money... so I would like to get back something in return: members, good articles, etc... Any Inspiration ideas? Any suggestion or experiences about giveaways? Thank you
Well possible solutions could be - Referal Contest - Good Article As you suggested - Posting contest - Points Collection.. Basically keep 1000 points for tshirt and let 200 ppl redeem it
You have to look at your bottom line and where your revenues come from. If your revenues come from advertising then you are going to want traffic. What brings traffic? Good content. Article writing would be good. Maybe something like, how to do an oil change, how to fix xyz engine etc etc. Do some research to see what types of keywords you should focus on. I would personally suggest contests, why? Because people will put up tons of content with the hopes of winning something. If your revenues come from memberships then focus on referrals.
Thank you killer2022, That is a very important point "content is king". At early point of the website, I don't know what's the real source of my revenues is. or that's even qualified to be called "revenues". I know there's potentials and ideas out there, but sometimes it seems like a continuous challenge (like anything else in life), Promoting a website and being artist about SEO'ing it or Just following the passion and things will come naturally?. A mix could be ideal Isn't that what intelligence and singularity are about, Google too? I think articles contest so far is a good idea but still want to hear your opinions A lottery is an option, I don't want to reward a non-contributor person, but sometimes the idea of someone somewhere wearing your shirt.com is still not bad idea.
I'd go for a referral contest. Why not find out from where majority of your traffic is coming from and send good members a free t-shirt? That would spike an interest in the locality.
You definitely want to avoid a general competition. I tried that with a high value prize and found that most of my entrants were 'professional' competition entrants. Ideally, you would reward loyalty to the forum so a referral competition or a posting competition would be better suited in my opinion.
