I think your best bet is search engine optimization, but it's not going to come fast. Once you get some methods put together that work for you things will move along relatively fast (for example, I have a few personal steps I use to get myself ranked at the top of Yahoo listings within 1 week and Google within a month, but they took me a couple years to develop). It'll take a lot of studying, but once you get the hang of it the paydays make it worth all the effort:)

    HI

If you have a host account with unlimited bandwidth you do not need to worry about where your visitors come from or how much bandwidth they suck up... I recommend if you have a site that is not a 1 page sales page put adsense on it or something like that and from that revenue you make buy PPC ads... then you can turn free visitors in to targeted visitors and make more sales.

I do it so I know it works... but there is a lot more to getting traffic...

    Thx
    Tom

You need to do a combination of advertising and marketing.

    If you want free...

As someone suggested SEO the hell out of your site and use Stumbleupon. Your money making site is good for Stumble, send out your site and let others 'discover' your content. You could do that for the majority of your pages. Make sure you 'discover' other peoples sites too or Stumble will ban you for too much self promo.

Use Twitter and gain lots of followers. Every time you post send out a Tweet. There are is an RSS that will do it automatically for you or sign up for Tweetlater.

Social bookmarking and article marketing, press releases and newsletters are more ways to get traffic.

Set aside a marketing and ad budget and allocate more as you make money.

although it takes time and effort, SEO efforts are the best in the long run. Create your site around a tight mini-site theme which are built around your main keywords.

there is a wealth of SEO info out there including the latest trends. all you have to do is implement!

    good luck!

There a lot of different tactics to get free
traffic but instead of giving you information
    overload, I'll keep it simple.

I just like to write and submit only to
    ezinearticles.com. After submitting about
20 articles you'll finally discover what work
    and what doesn't.

Then it won't be too long before you're
getting 150 people to your site each
    day.

Again, i don't think its always going to boost traffic. A lot of links get buried or don't see the light of day because so many of the powerusers on those SB sites are hording all the top link spots for themselves

one question which nobody seems to have asked, is how much traffic are you expecting to have? And of what quality. 1 person a day might be enough if its converting a $100 sale - you say you want more traffic, but why?

SB sites are a waste of time. There's a big one out there which claims to make it easy, but i believe you need accounts with everything. Its called SocialBookMarker or something along those lines

Try to submit your site and market it in the social bookmarking and networking site.

This will boost your traffic in your site.

Yes the very minimum you should do is to use the Google Webmaster Tools and submit a sitemap.

Leave it a while, then check the stats, see what pages are popular on your site, what people are typing, see how the Google bot sees your site, what keywords google has associated with your site.

It's a start, something you can then build on.

You need a strategy, things you will do Daily, weekly and monthly.

In time you should start seeing results.

Creating blogs and review sites to compliment your main site is a good way to rank.
