Free Stuff

    It might seem counter-productive but online, and this might only be something exclusive to online, the best way to make sales and generate leads is to give away stuff.

    That's right.

    To make money, you should give away free stuff.

    Everyone loves the word free, right? You go to conventions and come back with bags and bags of free t-shirts and things. You have free DVDs and CDroms, from the convention. Oh, and uh $400 in stuff you bought too. How did that happen?

    Well it's a known fact that people love free stuff. Couple that with a sale and you've got it made. The largest launch days are not shrouded in secrecy, but what they are giving away for free is under need to know basis only. So let's say you have a product launch. You send out your pre-emails, your pre-videos, your leaked info about your PRODUCT. But, you hold dear to you, what your bonus item is going to be. Why? Because someone else could trump your free item, launch on the same day same time and steal all of your customers.

    Would that be fair? It's business baby. Just, business.

    Marketing is all about attracting people.

    Think about Hollywood for a second. They give away Gucci, Cartier and one-of-a-kind ipods. It's called SWAG [sealed with a gift]. What do they get in return? They get a "free" spokesperson for their product, that they would otherwise have to pay 30k... 100k... or sign a contract.

    Free Stuff

    So the lesson here is, give out free stuff. Draw your crowd in with something you can give away in order to get what you want, i.e. traffic, sales, email info.
