    hey guys.

Just looking for some general information on how to set-up a free sms site (where members can send text messages to their friends for free) sort of like cbfsms.com?

Like how much does it cost me? do i have to sign up to a service?

and any more information you can give me would be great.

I'd found something a while ago, but I've forgotten about it.

I was going to get into, but there's way too much competition in this niche.

There are 2 types of sending SMS
    1. Through Email
    2. Through Carriers
There is no charge for sending SMS through email. But this method is out of date and will not work in most countries.
With carriers you'll get 100% satisfaction but you need to pay for SMSes.
Search google for sms carriers to get their price!

Well, if you use SMS through e-mail, it might be easy: you just need to setup a form and send the info to the correct adress. That's relativeley easy to do.

Carriers are the way to go, though, as e-mail only works in the US, and it's not always reliable. Reliability is necessary, because if someone's message doesn't get sent, they'll never come back and they will most likely not tell their friends about your site.

If they see it works, they will surely use you again/bookmark you and tell their friends about you.

So it's pretty much a hit or miss.

There are few sites use to offer free SMS but I just can't find any now. In reality there's no such thing as free SMS. Someone has to bare the cost. Those sites that use to provide free SMS is actually paying the charges through advertisement. Means when you send a message neither you nor receiver pays but cost will be born by advertiser which will embed some advertisement text as part of the receiving message.

But for yahoo case I believe they pay mobile operator a bulk rate which is much, much cheaper than ordinary SMS.
