Free Sitemap Generator (Best I've found..)

I've had a stack of problems finding a decent sitemap generator - some didn't do it right or get the correct paths, others threw up errors with Google Sitemaps itself.

Here is the best one I've found:

    h**p://www.auditmypc.com/free-sitemap-generator.asp

Best to bookmark. I have no affiliation with this tool, I just found it better then any of the ones Google suggest (which don't seem to work properly).

Are you on an IIS server? <covers head> I am.

If so, I use this really great asp script located here: www.iteam5.net/francesco/sitemap_gen

I was able to submit my sitemap.asp to google sitemaps, each time the asp is run, it provides a new xml sitemap with last mod date.

Since it is dynamically generated, I don't have to add urls, or push any buttons. It works really well for me

very nice. But are they sure you have to encode the url to your sitemap? Google says just give them the address, e.g. h**p://mysite.com/sitemap.xml

This asp code code spiders my site, gets last mod date and generates a valid xml file. So yes I have to tell the asp code what my site name is, and specify the physical path, in order for the asp code to run initially. You can also specify file names, file types, and whole directories to exclude from the xml output.

Once this asp is setup, submit the asp file to sitemaps and each time the file is accessed it creates a fresh xml with last mod date.

    Does that make more sense?

Great resources and links. Thanks everyone. :) I sadly forget the one that I found really interesting, but I will definately post a link once I find it in my large list of bookmarked websites.

I had major problems finding a generator that allows unlimited pages for a big site I have. Will check through some of these and see if I get any luck.

www.xml-sitemaps.com is the one I use. They have a free online version and also a php script for running on your own server.

    Hi,

Is there any sitemap generator tool available which consider robots.txt file before generating sitemap?

It is of no use to have those urls in sitemap which are disallowed by robots.txt file. I have many dynamic pages disallowed by robots.txt file, and when i generate google sitemap, those urls are present their. I don't want that, can anyone help.

    Thanks in advance.

www.xml-sitemaps.com observes robots.txt so doesn't include any files excluded by it.

It is not working as you are saying !!!

Okay, see the code in robots.txt file

    User-agent: *
    Disallow: /subCategory.php?
    Disallow: /print.php?

    Is it correct?

I want to disallow all dynamic subCategory.php and print.php pages

autositemap.com has worked well for me on a few simple sites (with around 300 - 500 url's.

    Just my 2c:
Using a Google Sitemap for a site with less than say 500 URLs is a waste of time. If you have 500 URLs or less and Google can't crawl properly you need to work on your website instead. If Google can crawl your site and is just not indexing it properly, you might want to work on getting your links up instead -- more good links = crawled more often and deeper (works for all engines).

Of course the "bonus features" from the Google Sitemap-System are great, but you can get those without using a Google Sitemap file as well.
