Does submitting your site to free search engine submission services effective? I tried a couple of service but seems no good result so far...
Not at all. If you are trying to get indexed then get some inbound links, preferably in trusted directories, authority sites, and sites that are related to your niche. If you are trying to improve your ranking for a new site then more of the same. Try to vary your anchor text and keep reciprocal links to a small percentage of your total inbound links. Only do reciprocal links within your niche or with authority sites.
They're a waste of time. If you're going to submit to the search engines (which I do myself, mind you - it only takes a couple minutes, which is great for when a pot of hot coffee or tea is brewing, or a bag of popcorn is cooking in the microwave), do so directly by going to Google, Yahoo and MSN. Don't waste your time on "services" which claim to submit your site to all the search engines, because the simple fact of the matter is they can't, there are only four major engines you need to worry about anyway, and one of them (Ask) doesn't have a submission page (since it relies on backlinks). While getting links poitning back to your site is a highly effective means of submission, the only GUARANTEED way to tell the search engines that your site exists is to submit it to them directly.
