Hello! I am using BaseCamp right now to manage website projects with my customers and online designers. However, I am paying a lot for it due to the number of projects that I have. The most important thing I use are and like the most: Online Collaboration / Messaging File Sharing / Uploading Files Email notifications when messages are posted I don't really use the timesheet or milestone feature. In any case, to cut overhead cost, do you guys have any inputs for a free project management software that I can use on my own server. I am looking for Friendly GUI for the customers, have the functionalities I mentioned above, FREE most of all, and easy to use. I found some online but not sure how they perform: http://www.dotproject.net/ 1. iTeamwork http://www.iteamwork.com 2. http://www.dotproject.net Project Management featuring companies, projects, tasks (with Gantt charts), forums, files, calendar, contacts, tickets/helpdesk, language support, user/module permissions, themes. 3. http://gforge.org/ GForge has tools to help your team collaborate, like message forums and mailing lists; tools to create and control access to Source Code Management repositories like CVS and Subversion. GForge automatically creates a repository and controls access to it depending on the role settings of the project. 4. http://www.phprojekt.com/ Project Management featuring optional group system, privileges, calendar, contacts, time card, projects, chat, forum, request tracker, mail client, files, notes, bookmarks, to-do list, reminder, voting, language support. 5. http://www.jxproject.com/ 6. http://www.aceproject.com/ (Hosted) 7. Consultant Communicator http://consultcomm.sourceforge.net/ What do you use?
It's a shame that no one answered this thread. I'm currently looking for a project management software, and have come up to dotproject, but not really sure how it compares to others. This is a great list you have gathered here, I hope you will get some feedback. I can see now that you posted this in January, so can you tell us which one did you choose?
I opted for something more straight forward since we are already using Google Apps. I use DoneDone for our web development projects. Freedcamp is a good and free alternative for Basecamp as well.
This is not a collaborative tool but it can be useful you are a "one man show" and need a software to manage your projects / task list: http://www.webmasterorganizer.com
