YES it will affect search engine ranking and efficacy - many will drop sites that are on blacklisted domains. Blacklisted could be for a number of reasons, but generally spam - go to the link I posted and it'll give a "details" link for more information - be sure to bring this to your webhosts attention, they may not yet be aware of it as it was only cached / added today.

The sad truth is, is that without some good policing, and sometimes even then, one bad idiot can screw it up for everyone on that host or ip ....

You've time to recover though - as I mentioned, it was only added today.

wrmineo, based on the URL, it doesn't seem to be blacklisted

I can also see that this site has a PR of 4.

On what url? his or the one I posted? It still shows blacklisted at whois today. If you're referring to his url - PR value doesn't indicate it's not blacklisted. Being on a blacklisted domain is not the same as Google banned. Further as PR only updates about every 3-4 months, that would not be an indicator.

However, he still has plenty of time to correct and maintain.

ALSO, this is not to say that he doesn't have a good offer of allowing links in his directory. AND, this is not to say that romow has done anything wrong - when you look at the details for the blacklist - you can see that one idiot has been busted for spam, more specifically for allegedly having an opt-in that is not, and now the entire IP block is under scrutiny. (I added one of my blogs just the same!)

It was just an FYI for him for CYA - cover you ass; hope your host clears up soon; further, I hope they ban the idiot that put yours and others' sites in jeopardy. Stay on top of your provider. Don't be afraid to ask them for some compensation - say a month free hosting - for the potential damage and harm done (there is none really, but you could argue that you potentially lost site ad revenue, linking ops, SERP, etc ... can't hurt; this will also emphasize to them that they need to take a proactive approach to looking out for their customers AND crack down hard on dumbasses:) )

Let us know how it turns out.

    hi,
    my hosting provider acted swiftly,
and SpamHaus has removed the spam listing.
I'm quite satisfied with their response.

    Thanks for the heads up!

Thanks for the link, it'll be great for human traffic!

Please be aware that it uses a redirect and therefore gives no SEO advantage.
    <a href='http://www.bulletize.com/jump.php?sid=658&url=http%3A%2F%2Fsarahk.pcpropertymanager.com%2Fblog' target="_blank">
    <font size='2' color=blue><b>Simple SEO blog</b></font></a>
    Code (markup):
The method that I recommend is to use an onclick event to redirect the user leaving the href with the valid link. The search engines who can't use javascript get the simple link, you get the hit tracking. To see it in action check out RealState.
