Free PHP poll scripts safe to use?

    I found a couple poll/voting scripts in PHP that are freeware (PM if you need to know what they are) developed by some companies. A few files have to be 777 to allow user to vote. Are there specific safety concerns or precautions I need to take. I'm new to PHP so any pointers are appreciated. Thanks.

    Free PHP scripts are almost never safe to use! Really good way to get hacked.
