I came across posting this thread when I cannot go for headache anymore, so I will need some opinion ..

Joomla : sucks when installing mods, com as it use apache as default user and will give you headache once you wanna make a backup.

Wordpress : i dont think it's for corporate web

Mambo : discontinued project, but still lot of resources on the net.

PHP-Nuke : my friends site got hacked 100 times using it, the greatest story about nuke i've ever heard.

Take a look at this site, using subdreamer, very decent i think : http://www.photoshopchop.com

So i'm deciding to move to paid one, allready test drive a few, but then i think subdreamer is the most delicious, so what do you vote ??

a bit off topic, but phpnuke has a very unfortunate name, as it gets nuked the most

i'd go for the free ones... the open source ones are pretty good (probably even better than the paid ones) - so why pay money...

I use Etomite for a site of mine. I am not willing to pay for a script that soon since I don't have the money for this. I'd rather test some scripts.

Either I go with Wordpress/Drupal or I build my own :)

Or modules for the above PHP scripts...

Really, it depends on your particular necessity. Most websites would run very nice on free CMS. But sometimes there's that incredible feature of a paid one (plus the support!) and you don't know how to code, and it's better to pay.

I use GuppY (without database) and happy about it. Joomla is the good one with a database.

i prefer free applications . for example joomla, it's a complex and open source cms. i believe any of the paid solution will give the same quality

Communities around paid CMS's are usually smaller than what you can see with the free options. Go for the freebie and spend the money towards any customization work needed.

BTW, nice formulation of the second option of the poll ;)

I think Drupal is one of the better ones, free or paid...it's got so many features and the flexibility is awesome (if you have patience...lol)

I love open source stuff, it's usually the same quality or better than paid things...and the communities are larger

Joomla seems to be ok with a right template, but extensive reliance on mods and extension turns me off, I too am intrested to know which is the better CMS.
