Free or Open Source software for graphic design

    Is there any basic software for creating basic images and graphics for websites? Something easy to use for making simple banners/adverts etc.

    I was thinking GIMP - The GNU Image Manipulation Program at gimp.org but there are plenty of open source choices. Take a look at this blog entry,

    Yep GIMP is a free opensorce and I think it's good enough to eddiitng a graphics

    GIMP's OK. It'll get you by. However, don't be afraid to dish out the cash for the industry standard: Photoshop. I've got Cs4 Extended, and it's just bloody amazing. ;)

    Have to second this one - inkscape is a great product fair play. not as straight forward as some but it aLL depends on what your doing... If its building vectors or just touching up photos etc...

    You can use right from your browser. It is easy to use once you get used to it. It offers, image editing (like photoshop) Vector editing ( Illustrator) and many more.. Go to their website and try it out, it's awesome for a free soft...

    Another vote for GIMP. Personally I can't stand it (lol!), but it seems to be the best of the free graphic programs - at least from what I've seen.
