I love article dashboard script, but I hate to have to use it.

The script is wonderful and I wish I could find a a full-source script similar to it.

There is a nice script similar to Goarticles.com (http://demo.kalptaru.info/stararticles/index.php) The only thing I don't like about stararticles is the design. The design is not very attractive, but the script works really good.

The guys at article dashboard distribute the script for free just to have the backlinks to their website. Since they have backlinks in MILLIONS OF PAGES their pagerank is getting really good, BUT NOT YOURS!

Google strongly penalizes duplicate content. In the end just websites with GOOD pagerank will have their pages showing up in the search results.

Article Dashboard receives the same articles through isnare.com and other distributors. Google will look at all the duplicate content on articlesdashboard.com with MILLIONS of backlinks and on your site. Which one do you think is going to show up?

If they just built article software and put Powered by Article Dashboard on the bottom that would be no problem. The problem is that they are strongly and directly competing against the people they give the free script. I don't understand how people don't realize this.

In this case it doens't help to use article dashboard script, and worse, the script in totally encrypted even the articles!

I'm really looking forward to use a script integrated with Joomla.

I hope livingingermany will be able to make the integration of articletrader with Joomla.

But in the same way the articletrader guy wants the backlink in order to improve his pagerank and show up first.

The best thing was to have a paid "clean" script with no backlinks...

What you say makes some sense, but it is not fully true (it would be nice for me if it was though, I'm the "articletrader guy" ;) )
Even though articledashboard have a ton more backlinks than some other sites, google (for reasons known only by them) still sends traffic for some articles to the other sites.
    case in point:
The article '3 ways to drink more water' has been on articledashboard for a long time.
    But a google search:
    http://www.google.com/search?num=20&hl=en&lr=&q="3+Ways+To+Drink+More+Water"&btnG=Search
Notice that articledashboard.com is not even in the top 10, while some other sites using the articledashboard script is. The number 2 result , articlekarma, is only PR4

This is only one example, their are many many more.

And as for Joomla, you can forget it. I have several sites that do well with Joomla and my articles site which fails miserably.

The biggest problem with Joomla, as I have said before, is the amount of database requests even the basic ínstall without any components added makes. Any more than 1000 articles and you really push the boundaries of the standard shared hosting account, like siteground.com for example. My site has killed two of their shared hosting servers in a way that all other users have experienced major database problems. Not badly coded, don't get me wrong, just not up to handling large article collections on small servers. My www.freiburg-home.com site is living proof of that. It has around 2000 articles and is a joomla site, ie; joomla database. I had my account suspended after the MySQL server died so often. They offered me a standalone 'special purposes' hosting account free of charge but that struggled too. Now I have a virtual private server hosting account, which is 1000% the price, which I tried for a month but due to other factors I have not made enough on adsense to stay above water. Therefore I have no option but to let my account expire and its bye bye years of work just because of Mambo and then Joomla. It's really annoying as I have page rank 7 and 6 on many pages on that site and it was making $xxx per month via adsense. Not any more.

Short answer: Joomla is very nice looking, easy to customize, great with SEF and SEO, BUT ... and this is a big BUT... if you spend too much time using it you'll find it plays havoc with the entry-level hosting accounts and you have to spend a lot of money to make all that hard work pay off.

Just 2 weeks before the account expires... :(

My www.paulsquiz.com site, which is also a joomla account is doing OK. There's not _that_ many articles, just the essential ones and thus the DB works just fine, I don't spend a lot of money on it and everyone is a winner.

Just ask yourself how many content items will you have on your site when it's thriving, and how much money you are prepared to spend on hosting the damn thing. If the answers are over 1000 and less than $20 a month, then forget the J word.

Have you considered selling some text links on these high PR pages to support the cost of your new server?

Yeah that thought had entered my mind, but due to time limitations (ie: permanent downtime in a few weeks) and lack of knowledge, I have no idea how to go about it. Any recommendations?

Anyone else know of an article script that can handle XX,XXX articles on a shared hosting account? Does such a script exist or do you pretty much need a dedicated server to run a large article website that gets X,XXX number of visitors a month?

visit articleworld.net (not mine) which i know is hosted on a shared account. It is based on articlelive, which i've found to be a powerful yet resource-friendly script.

Actually I was gonna install article dashboard but after reading this thread,,,I'm not so sure....

Actually the arguments against article dashboard make some sense but if you guys check out the Alexa rank of quite a few Article Dashboard sites you'll see they are pretty good...but as far as Google Page Rank goes...not so. Then again I dont know so much...to comment here, but another thing is some people have said inspite of very good Alexa rank, they only earning 30 bucks a month...that's bad.

I didnt know that the articles in AD (Article Dashboard) will be encrypted as well...which is a big eye opener and basically a let down....in case I want to transfer the articles to another script...I cant do that...:(

I know that the guys who create AD will benefit the most...which is what you get for free...I really hope some people in DP have better alternative scripts with great features and willing to sell them cheap.

Maybe a script with image upload and wysiwig editor will surely make my day..

Yep, I have AD deployed across a handful of sites. If you're going to use that script though you should immediately alter the templates completely. Take the token codes out of the default templates and then create a new template from scratch. Have a programmer from RentACoder or the college kid down the street do this for you.

At the end of the day it looks like I'll just suck it up and purchase a customized version of interspire.com/articlelive/. That has exactly what I need and the development staff assures me they can provide the customizations required.

Just in case anyone missed it in some of the prev posts, I have a free article script at http://www.articletrader.com/articlems/
It has a pretty advanced templating system, and can easily handle large amounts of articles.

(Articletrader.com is running fine on a shared hosting account with this script, and it has over 30k articles, and under 15k at Alexa)
