I want to dump a few thousand personal photos for storage/viewing on my own domain/hosting. I want to upload photos via browser (and ideally iPhone/iPod touch), put them in a category, and view them in albums as thumbnails. Pretty basic stuff. I've had a really quick look around, but there are so many to chose from. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_photo_gallery_software#Server_applications Gallery looks kinda good. Where do I start? Anyone got any recommendations?
It may be easier to use Flickr or Picasa for storing and building your albums with. Then use a script on the website to display them. Not sure of what kind of apps you have for iPad, but I think they have them for both. Of course, to any real photo editing you may have to resort to a real computer -- apps are so limited in their abilities.
I want to store the photos on my hosting, so I can easily back them up, move them, etc. Re iPhone/iPod - I don't need to edit anything, I just want to be able to email snapshots to a special address at my domain to publish them. (or whatever) I think Gallery will do everything I want. Any opinions on Gallery? Anyone?
hi, i have a script to rename & resizing images in multiple directories, This script will facilitate you in naming the image and making thumbnail images on your web server. that will facilitate the arrangement and details, so you do not need a complicated process. This script is only one file. PM me if you're interested.
Hi, You need Jalbum. Don't bother registering on the site, since you are going to store everything on your own server, just download the program. http://jalbum.net/software/download/current/all-systems Although, I don't believe the app works on iphone / ipad ... if you want to be able to upload via those, you'd need to use their hosted version instead of hosting on your own server. My recommendation would be to use their program and just upload from your (mac or windows) computer. It is a great program.
... for storage/viewing on my own domain/hosting. @jawanda - pity jAlbum doesn't support mobile/iOS uploads.
Seems there is another version of Gallery out there. Then there is Coppermine which is pretty stable and has a large following. Look at Open Source Image Galleries Demos at OpenSourceCMS. They have a lot of vetted reviews and ratings. Plus you can demo frontends/backends of all the image gallery scripts from one place.
