I have also launched my blog directory bloogly.com where I'm offering 100% revenue sharing with featured links and 50% with regular listing with listing.
Wow, nice idea, so actually people are doing it,uhu sunny , i thought it was your idea, how seems ppl have been doing it could you please let us know, how is it going so far? very interesting stuff
Here is a sneak peak. It should be done in 12 hours or so http://www.knowledgefanatic.com/directory/money-and-financial/money-complex-andrew-fischer.html 50% rev share Real urls, real metas etc etc Full official post coming soon
It seems good at first but i am sure it would not work. Because avg earnings of users would be in pennies for a whole year.
Not true for one... and second dude, Its a free listing......so even of you made $1.00 its good Plus you get traffic , not like other directoires youll see dude
Instead of listing page a)you could put the ad on category or submit pages randomly! or b)if a webmaster is referring a visitor to a directory ,referrer's ads will be displayed! for example if the directory is like this http://www.west2002.org -> you could display the ads on top or at left side! It's very easy to implement!
I can do all that now with my script, I have the best php guy in the world working for me I have tons of dynamic options, I basically do do drop and drag in my cp for the layout Its not ajax BUT its OOP , very universal
An interesting idea. I would also concur that the Adsense earnings are likely to be very slim, and would certainly not be enough to encourage people to submit. Having a link in your directory should be incentive enough, without the need for revenue sharing. I personally don't like to put my pub ID on any page I don't have direct control over, but that's just me. In order to prevent click-bombing attacks, and people clicking their own ads (and possibly yours, by accident - getting you banned) I would suggest randomising the pub ID placement. So it could be anyone's ID on a page, making it much harder for someone to try to boost their own income fraudulently. I don't know whether this is a huge problem with revenue sharing websites though, more than any other site with Adsense? What would be really good would be if you suggested a handful of charity pub IDs on the submit page, for people to choose instead of putting their own one in.
You do have control over the content, you can edit it at any time http://www.knowledgefanatic.com/non-logged.html Thats the beauty of this, you write it, you earn from it, and get a free listing Listen, I am not going to convince anyone, because Larry already has that covered for me. Who's Larry ...you know Page Rank Larry I have been a webmaster for many years, Now every one is like yea yea, When it turns a PR7 like most of my other sites, people will be lining up to get in This was just a chat thread, not a sales thread of any kind, But thanks for all the feedback
Okay, that's good. That just leaves the navigation and header or footer information surrounding it, and everyone else's listings on category pages. For instance, could someone edit their descriptions or titles to feature porn keywords or other TOS violations without it having to go back for manual approval?
I haven't read all the replies but here's what I think: If you will share revenue, you will get tons of fraud clicks and eventually your account will be banned.
Very interesting idea and I wish you luck and success with that. Maybe I am naive but I don't think someone can click you to ban you. Otherwise anyone can go click crazy on anyone to get them banned. Google knows that! You may get banned for a different crazy Google thing but with a great directory that is just an extra feature anyway.
