I have decent Photoshop skills, and I am interested in designing templates. I have a few questions... 1) Is it feasible to design templates when you can't code them? 2) Does it require knowing how to use the slice tool in Photoshop? 3) What are the standard dimensions for website, WP, or other blog templates? 4) What's a good price for an uncoded template? Any links are appreciated. I have no problem doing my own research and reading. The first post on this thread that answers all three of these questions thoroughly (I don't mean a book, but you know, just so I understand) will receive a free link on my blog for 1 year. No adult sites please. Others will receive green for effort. *NOTE* I will create a standard button for your link so it stands out. Thanks in advance!
Ah i hate it, and I know it is not good to answer a question with a question, but I have to (as these are personal things that one should personally judge). 1). Do you think you can sell designs without coding or you can outsource a coder and yet to make profits? 2). If you can already outsource a coder than the slicing tool is not needed but makes work easier for the coder (but you are paying him so..) 3). From stats of my websites 31% of visitors have 1024x768 screen resolution, the rest is of 1280x1024, 1280x800 etc. 4). How much is your time worth ? Hope it helps
Hi WaxingPoetic - I've got some answers for you. 1. As long as you have a decent idea of what will work for a website design and how it will be cutup into html. i.e. Tables etc. then yes it is feasible. 2. If you know how to slice things in Photoshop/Image Ready then it will make the job of the person who is cutting your design easier. 3. It is a good idea to design for the lowest common denominator screen resolution. Usually 800/600 or 1024/768. 4. The price really depends on how professional the templates are. The prices that I've seen range from $5 - $100. Hope that helps Let me know if I can explain anything in more detail.
