Different Phases of a consumer and where to find them. Unaware > Aware > Interested > Desire > Purchase Unaware Consumers Phase This is the phase of a normal consumer who has never seen or heard of your product but might have a chance of loving and buying your stuff. These are consumers who are can 'potentially' be your customer one day. To find these people online, you will have to target demographics of your customers. Lets say you are selling a dating e-books for men. The demographics of this niche world be Men, age 20 to 40, Single. Facebook and Bing are some of the paid traffic platforms that you can use to target these men. Banner ads can be placed on sites that attract types of these men. Example sites would be (from quantcast - learn how to use this awesome tool): Males magazine sites Gaming sites Sport sites comic sites dieting sites movie sites video sites (youtube videos that gets men's attention) social sites Example Keywords would be very generic and often unrelated to the niche itself: sports news Xbox gaming ipad 2 how to be successful Aware Phase Next would be Consumers who are aware of your product but are just looking for more information Again in the dating niche, these people would be searching for keywords like american dating date sites Online dating find love These keywords are rather general and people in this phase require more marketing in order for them to become a customer. Interested Consumers Phase The people inside this category would be searching for detailed Keywords such as: How to seduce a girl Dating guide for ugly man Get girls to notice me dating relationship advice As you can see the intention for these keyword has moved from casual browsing into looking for specific information to help them do better in dating. Desire Phase These people already know about your product which in this case would be your dating e-book. Example of searches would be (product names): Double your dating Doubleyourdating Double your dating by David Deangelo David Deangelo's dating guide David Deangelo's Double your dating Double your dating review Should I buy double your dating Compare Double your dating These people are very close to buying your stuff... they just need a little more push so apply scarcity or discounts tactics to help close the sale (Conversions is a whole different topic so I won't touch it in this article). Purchase Phase In this phase the consumer literally has their credit card on the table and has already decided to give you money. So this is the best keywords of them all... but the traffic for this these are usually at the minimum. Buy double your dating Double your dating discount Double your dating coupon Purchase Double your dating Buy Double your dating online get double your dating So Which Phase should we aim for? Here's what I do... as an affiliate. I usually go for a mix of Interested keywords (with a small mix of aware keywords) in the testing phase and I build a list out of this and slowly funnel my subscribers into the purchase phase. I also aim for purchase and desire keywords because they are just too valuable to miss out on. (Don't forget to track and test - Kill underperforming keywords fast) With this I get a healthy amount of traffic which makes me a comfortable amount of income each month. Keyword choice has a lot to go with your overall marketing strategies, what you aim for and how you wish to target your audience. For online marketers, we usually do not go for unaware keywords unless you've got a lot of budget and a strong marketing funnel to make it worth your while. So what makes a keyword list good? The answer should be a keyword that has enough people searching for it and the intention of the searcher should be of the intention of taking some sort of action that will ultimately fulfill your goals. Competition should be moderate. If you found a keyword that has a huge potential to earn money but is very competitive, you will need to apply strategies to stand out from the crowd to beat your competition. Again i'll leave that for another day. I use google's external tool and some private tools to build my lists. But you really need to take time to weed out unwanted keywords manually because... softwares cannot think and rationalize the intentions behind the keywords which they suggested. Just remember this. If your goals is to sell something immediately, then focus your choice of keywords has to be more on purchase keywords. If your goals is for people to opt in to your list then your keywords needs to be more focused on people who are looking for more information. If your goal is just to get more people to be aware of your product or branding purposes, then your keywords needs to be more generic. The Steps 1) When you've decided on your niche and goal head over to your favorite keyword tool. I like to use google's external keyword tool. 2) Start with generic keywords and slowly drill down more into deeper. 3) Once you have a significant list. Categories your keywords properly in excel. 4) Go through the list of suggested keywords. Filter it out based on your goalsand take out unrelated keywords. 5) Test out the list of keywords. If it is profitable or worth adding more keywords, only then you should spend more time building a larger list of keywords. Building your own keyword list can be very time consuming. So to help you get started here's some of my OWN keyword lists which have taken me weeks to prepare for your reference. Prebuilt Keywords List For You Free... If You Want Them...
