I'm quite curious on this. If you look at the Solicitations & Announcements forum, despite the fact that there are quality directories being promoted in there, there are also those directories that probably aren't even a week old. Is it worth it to submit your site in them? Especially when the domain is like a month old... Any views? Because I just see myself submitting, then finding out that some directories don't even exist a month or two later... Thanks!
I always look to the design, function and originality when it comes to brand new directories. If it stands out from the rest, chances are good the owner has invested at least a little money in building it. Normally when $$$'s have been invested, the directory will be around for awhile.
Well it's not going to hurt. The real question is whether it's worth the time consumption. I always look at design/etc as above mentioned, but also on the person promoting the new directory and if it's dynamic or static URLS, if the logo actually points to the main URL, etc. You can tell if they've put in no time at all. Also the Featured links going permanent for like 3 bucks.... instantly you know this is a fly by night directory.
It only takes 60 seconds to submit and if the dir becomes sucessful you win... if it doesnt you lost 60 seconds. Its worth it as far as Im concerned...
Well, what if you aren't submitting to one, or a couple? Just curious to see some answers. What makes one think that the low priced featured listings for a beginning directory makes it look like a "fly by night directory"? Trying to generate some more thought here as I'm hoping to create a quality directory myself too in near future.
