Offering free hosting is attracting all the Spammers, XXX doorwaypages. You should verify often the users websites and everthing will be ok.Should be better if you force them that you have to approve their sites :d.But like the others are pointing: you should make money to sustain that
Maybe you should mention that all the packages for the free websites will be first checked and aproved before being online. And you will be the one that will checked all the applications and delete all the spam
My article doesnt mention layeredpanel.com for nothing; they have an antifrauding system as well as good bandwidth/traffic metering. I don't think verifying all users beforehand is feasible. Things like email are off by default, disabling email spammers; you can enable that when he is verified. Verification can, for instance, be paying you some $ to proof he is credible.
That is one way of doing it. Another way is having a forum; you can as people to post at least 50 posts and they'll be trusted. This'll fill your forum.
There are a number of things that are looked for in a good host. Personally I look for good uptime, servers that aren't overloaded, cpanel, good service, etc. Be careful of web hosts offering a ton of storage and bandwidth for next to nothing, its not uncommon to see some of these servers highly overloaded. John
Hello Everyone, Thanks for the great advise, I think the forum Idea is great, I might give them the option to either post 50 posts in the forum or if they don't want to do that they can pay a small fee of aroun $2.50 to be verified. Thanks Jon
You can lure the forum members and new comers by awarding them with some benefits! For example, if they reach a certain post count you could grant them with some privileges or something like that. That way they will become more loyal members of your community and you will have the opportunity to convert them to valid customers if they haven't become yet. And remember that a good host has to have the required infrastructure to offer the desired uptime, security and support. Most of the hosting companies offer to their clients hosting services at very low prices plus DDoS protection/mitigation included. What most people do not know is that sometimes DDoS attack mitigation could cost round 1-3k dollars and sometimes up to 3-5k dollars. Such companies are obviously lying to their customers and the inevitable consequence is the inability to protect their customers from large scale attacks. If you want loyal clients then I think that you should better find a good and reliable company to partner with in order to offer good protection to your future clients.
After having a free host for a month I moved to paid but because that free host had provided such a poor performance, when I switched I also switched company. Promise people huge amounts of bandwidth and hdd space and then suspend their account when they've used about 10% of what you promised. This will be better than most free hosts, who suspend your account when you've used about 8%
Well I am happy to say I am not going to go banning people unnecessarily if they are loyal and dedicated members. Thanks for all the advise once again
I have looked at all options and I am probably going to use Layeredpanel, with a couple additions, including a custom design. But does anyone know of the best place to host a free host website? Does LP provide hosting? I want reliable servers obviously Thanks Jon
Hi, LP has an arrangement with NetEdgeTechnology for pre-loaded hosting but it you plan to own your own license and customize it you better lease a nice server which you can call "your own". WebHostingTalk.com is what I find to be the best place to dig out good offers and read reviews about hosts before renting.
does LP have this? if so its news to me? having a LP site I think thats quite strange check out my sig link, its not easy, you need to invest to make it viable, and as a money making scheme trust me its not worth it, unless you are willing to fund it for a year or two before trying to profit!
LayeredPanel does have an auto bot that scans your hosted sites for suspicious activities and mails the admin on any abuse/torrent/phishing and so on suspected site. Can't say you're 100% covered but then again you can never be covered fully. If you look on their forums you will see members that had tweaked and even totally customized their bot. That's what is so great about LP - as it's a full system (not just a "script") and is fully sourced - you, as an owner, can customize EVERYTHING.
