........I believe this isn't so much about free domains... Check out the reputation of news.bbc.co.uk and the amount of quality inbound links they have. Domain age, Pagerank, authority sites, expiration date and etc... Can you beat them? Matter of fact, someone will beat it to the top but lots of hard work would need to be put in. With a free domain you are restricted to the boundaries that the service provider sets for you. He can cancel the service any place, any time, and you could find your blog suddenly taken offline. As for beating the BBC, it is tough given that they are an authority site and give content that the readers readily gobble up.
