After having submitted sites to tons of the little free directories........ I can tell you it's a waste of time. I see that over time, no matter what directories I submit too....... you only need to submit your sites url to these 3 for 99% of your search engine traffic. Google MSN Yahoo and most of the time they will index your site by themselves. Now articles, that is a totaly different subject, and I submit each article to what I call the top 50 article directories.
how long have you waited for these results? how many did you submit to? i have had sites #1 google yahoo and msn with only directory backlinks and a little onsite SEO you dont even need to submit to the search engines... they will always find your site thru backlinks (1 quality link is all it takes) i get small trickles of traffic from directories too.. better than nothing.
I found towersearch dot com [Tower Search] to be better than most free submission searches - in that my site was listed within an hour. It is true though that most traffic comes through google and the other top five search engines.
If you don’t mind me asking here… About how long does it take for you to see results from article directories? Thanks.
This is 2006, basically a waste of time to submit to search engines as they will find your site. Submitting to directories is not a waste of time. Traffic you receive from them may be minimal, but the shining point of having your link in directories is for backlinks. Search engines go through directories and pick up those links. This will help in your page rank after a bit. So to say submitting to directories is a waste of time, is just wrong. Use a directory submitter on the buy, sell, trade forum under services.
Exactly - The point of directories is to get backlinks. Every now & then, you may get a stray visitor clicking through your link (more on some of the better directories), but mostly you're after high PR one-way backlinks.
Excuse such a n00b question, but as you can see... I am. What about building directories and adding your own sites to get them started? Does this help? Thanks
