Hi, I've used Directory Submitter's list of 350 directories and I've added one of my websites to almost all of them. I don't know if this will work in order to increase my website traffic (especially from search engines), but, this was the only thing I knew... so I've done it. I've started in January and I've got PR3 from the first 100 directories, because I didn't have much time at that moment to submit to more, but I've started again last week and I've finished that list. I don't want to waste more time waiting for my PR to get updated, but, I think it wasn't a bad thing that I've submitted to them. What should I do next? Other suggestions?
don't think so , try some other link-building method, ~if your PR>=5, you'll be on the first page in many many directories, cos they sort sites with PR
PR is on hold so forget about it. It never was an issue in the serp's anyway but that's a long sordid tale. If you are running a directory you dont need serp's either. Users use search engines and bounce from sit to site to find what they are looking for, not general directories stuffed full of filler that's intended to fool no one. On the other-hand if you have a topic specific web site, you need to figure out what search strings you want to rank for and you need to submit these to as many indexed pages as you can. The free directories are the easiest and you should keep topping up every month. The only downside is that its hit and miss and worth paying a review fee for long term value. Ask yourself one question, how long is this directory going to be around. If they are too cheap there is a potential problem. If the are pumping resources into it there is a potential problem. We run a workshop for emerging directory masters and have a growing list where we offer a replacement warranty for any links that get approved and dumped for any reason.
Oh well.. when you count the fact that those 350 directories could have a decent PR in the next update, you'd say.. they really are something But then.. that's taking it tooo far.... not to forget the problem of unrealistic thinking
I think you might have missed a step. I don't know your website, but content is the most important. So submitting to 500.000 directories isn't going to do any good if your content is crap. Make sure you get that perfected first.
With 350 directories the SEs will find your site. Now you need the content and the analyze what people are searching for. Make some special content with the keywords that you want to target and then start trying to build links for those pages. That type of linking campaign will be much more beneficial than submitting to another 5000+ directories. If you want to submit to directories do it to the ones that you pay for the link as they are more apt to be online for the longterm. A lot of the free ones are either fly by night or spam fodder.
i think its better to find some keyword related exclusive directories, and pay the fees if they didnt accept free submissions.
Free directory site have PR and have similar sites and content in the same category to where you will go. What is better 350 links or 7000 links. Even 7000 is small 100,000 is ok. Sure free directories are only a start - but they are free.
350 could work, 3500 would work even better but it all depends in the niche, if its a small niche 100 directory submission accepted could do the trick and place you first page on your desired keywords NEXT STEP ? don't stop building links, at the point that you do your competitors take over the first positions at your expense ...
you can try some viral marketing methods like article writing with your link on them, try getting an article submitter and submitting your articles to as many directories as possible or you could try the submission service like submityourarticle.com
