I don't really think they work. I've tried about 25, kept a careful spreadsheet and watched the logs and google Webmaster tools to see what kind of return i got... NOT MUCH...

I've found much better success with barter arrangements either through forums or advertised... 3-way links are good. ... post my affiliate stuff and I'll advertise your blog, etc...

We liked that so much, we started it formally as a free advertising for bloggers in return for posting our affiliate links. People seem to feel this is a fair trade.

It depends what your business is. When I post an ad for:
    mylinuxpage.com
I get a lot of hits but when I post for:
    mydealpage.com
I get no hits. People are very particular. Hope this helps

I would try USFreeAds, if you want to post affiliate links then you must get one of the other memberships which costs fees (definitely worth it).

If you find targeted sites where the ads don't expire they can be a small but steady source of recurring traffic.

I have an ad that was placed on a free classified site back in 2005 that still sends traffic my way. I get a few uniques a week from it.

The key was that the site had ads exclusively targeted at my niche, and wasn't just a general classified site. And also, as mentioned previously, the ads on that site don't expire.

Classifieds help with traffic. If you post in the right category and format the text well, you will gain some uniques.

Classified Ads does not get that much traffic for your site - atleast from my own experience. People would rather use the search engine than search through the classified ads -it seems. But it does not harm to advertise there. There are still potential in advertising in ads.

Depends on your market. I use craigslist. I get and extra 500 to 1000 visitors the day I list it which drops off over the course of the week. My peak was 1500 visits in one day.

I tried the craigslist and gumtree and give a best result. But this classified ads is so strict in the guidelines for the posting of ads. They easily detect or deleted the ads . They help boost traffic for the site. There is a lot of free ads such as google base, yahoo classified , msn ads and a lot more. But how we should know if there is a someone visited our site?

I've had success with a used car site I was advertising but got nothing out of some of my small business ads. So it really depends what market you are targetting and if they are likely to look on craigslist for that service or product.

I've had a good degree of success with Craigslists. I believe the key is to post in the correct category and ensure that your post is a compelling read with a link for further information. One of the added bonuses of posting on Craigslist is the fact that the advert often gets picked up by Google and appears in the natural search results.

Not sure if this is true of any other classified posting service
