You could always use the free version of GetResponse, http://www.getresponse.com/orderfree.html they slap ads a the tops of your emails and you only get 5 autoresponder messages but if you are looking for a free it may be a good way to start.

Getresponse is ranked nearly as highly as Aweber by most marketers, and they do have a free option. This will do if you only have very basic needs, and can put up with the emails containing advertisements.

If you are planning to build a serious business, the autoresponder, along with hosting, is the one thing you don't really want to skimp on. If you possibly can, get a proper paid service. If you can just do some work for other webmasters, you should be able to raise the money every month to pay for the autoresponder when you are starting out.

Although neither Aweber nor Getresponse accept PayPal, a third service called Email Aces does. They are also highly rated. This of course makes it easier to earn money, and transfer it to the service from the same account.

If you can possibly avoid it, don't skimp on your hosting or your autoresponder.
