why only go for a too bit fantasy tv/movie candidate. John Wayne is so much better. He is a patriot who has fought both the Japanese and the German's in WWII, the Cong in Vietnam, he has fought thousands and thousands of those dammed Indians, throws a great punch, fought the Mexicans at the Alamo (nobody has better anti immigration credentials). The Duke would be great for the anti tax movement; he hasn't signed a federal or state tax form in years. I can't understand all this excitement from the GOP about a middleweight fantasy tough guy candidate. Go for someone with really strong fantasy credentials. John Wayne for President!!!!!!
If John Wayne was alive and was nominated for president, there wouldn't be even a need for election, they could have as well let him be the next president.
not so fast gworld, even the duke would need a first lady....otherwise the opposition might think he is like the Senator from Idaho. I'd suggest Paris Hilton, she would help tie down the supporters of the estate tax issue. And then make Fred Thompson his running mate. All fantasy candidates with fantasy issues all the time!!!! Strong Ticket!!!
The problem with Thompson is that he was a relatively undistinguished Senator. In a popularity contest, he will clean up on name/face recognition alone. But when it comes to the issues, his stance on federalism looks like a lazy copy paste of Reagan's platform.
And that's why when GTech beats up on Ron Paul, then tells me he is going to "research" Fred Thompson, I'm literally left laughing myself to tears. I've yet to find more than a handful of people here who are willing to talk issues. Thompson doesn't even have a stand on the issues.
I'm not going to say that I know a lot about Fred Thompson, because I don't. But when I was listening to him on Leno lastnight I was suprisingly shocked at how blunt and honest he was. So blunt, in fact, i'm not sure he'd improve our current situation with foreign affairs that I think needs so much attention this coming term. He said things to the affect of "You know, people don't like us but we do more than twice as much as any other country for people outside of our borders". I'm not saying its untrue, but people despise us for our patriotism sometimes.
