Hi, I am not going to rant or whine about it, just my story with a question. Here goes: So basically, I logged in to my PayPal and saw that there were 3 transactions from my PayPal account which I didn't do. There were 3 transactions made with a total sum of $5K (£3.5K). I didn't have this amount of money in PayPal's balance and PayPal will charge around $3K from my credit card. I checked my bank account and there were no money taken. So I called PayPal this morning and they said they would investigate those transactions. I have been a user of PayPal since 2008 or 2007, fully verified, UK resident. I've been doing a lot of business through PayPal payment system. I have no idea how this could happen. I never use the same passwords anywhere and my passwords are very complex. I don't know how hackers could access my account ... maybe there is a loophole in PayPal system? Anyway, they told me to change the password. I did that. Now, do you think it is possible that PayPal returns my money? I hope they will. I will let you know how this thing goes in 3 days because they said they would investigate this event within 72 hours or less. Thanks for answers.
No. The thing is, not many friends know what PayPal is anyway and I have never given access to my PayPal account to anyone ... I always use PayPal when I am at home, I never log in nowhere but home. I don't even use PayPal on my phone. I think that they can track the IP used during the transactions and find out who did this. Not like I really care who they are or that if I would sue them, it's just that I want to get my money back Thanks
No. A few hours later after my call, my account got limited. They asked me to create new password, etc ... so I called them again. The limitation was lifted and two of three transactions were denied. So only one transaction of about $1.5K was made. They told me that it will take up to 72 hours to investigate this event. What a relief ... I am almost certain that I will get my money back!
Is it possible in paypal of cross-linking of accounts? According to mzonas it seems there is noway of accessing his account except him. But there is only two possibilities of making those 2 transactions. 1. Some how his password leaked through his PC. 2. Paypal make this transaction by mistake or by knowingly. But its good to hear they helping.
I don't think that my password was leaked. I think my credentials such as session or cookies were stolen. Well, PayPal refunded all my money, so it is all sorted now! I am a happy man again
there's a lots of cases of security breach nowadays referring to the case of recent hack attack on major Bitcoin exchange. I insist on implementing good security measures when it comes to ur money.
I couldn't agree more. Money that was sent from my PayPal account were refunded to my PayPal. Transactions that required money from my bank account were denies so I don't see anything wrong with that. I don't know why and I wasn't really worried ... I knew PayPal would refund it
