Fraud & Giveaways

    Hello all.

I have a question regarding online prizes and competitions.

I see a lot of websites which have prizes or giveaways if you participate in something. Assuming that they do not have any prizes, and are just trying to suck you in so you view/click on their ads, can they not be charged for fraud (or similar)?

I saw a website a few days ago that had something like this (seems like it was active in 2008, had little to no visitors, but is still offering the false prizes) so i researched the relevant laws, and it only says fraud exists if the website is charging money.

    Can anybody clear this up?

    Thanks.

The answer to your question is yes, deceiving others for personal gain is the very definition of fraud.
